Movie Review : Boyhood
This film was a cinematic achievement in the art of film. Richard gives the best direction I have seen in a long time. The way the film progressed so smoothly and the very well written dialogue made the film speak volumes. This film is the best directed film I have seen all year.
The Life of Mason shows him from a young man into a young adult age from 5 - 18.
Rated R : Strong language and some sexual references
Ellar Coltrane : He gives such a entertaining performance. He played this role for 12 years so he really knows the character inside and out. So he play his character's emotions really well onscreen. When he's sad, angry or frustrated you can believe the emotion he's showing. Because he gets under the skin of the role he's playing and that's fantastic it makes for a better performance. He gave such a entertaining performance I loved it.
Patricia Arquette : She Gave the best performance I have seen by an actress since Blue Jasmine. She gives such emotion to portraying the mother of the film. When she was onscreen you can't take your eyes off her. She's in it for a lot of the film but makes the most of those scenes that's what I loved about her performance. I loved her performance Oscar worthy.
Ethan Hawke : He gave such a scene stealing performance. Ethan plays the Dad of the film. And the way he plays his character with so much spirit and charisma is wonderful. When he's onscreen the dialogue he delivers is great and also the chemistry he has with his co - stars feels real. Since they shot this with the same cast over 12 years the would know each other really well. So when you watch the film you think this is a real family because the chemistry feels so realistic and natural. Ethan gave a Oscar worthy performance I loved it.
Lorelei Linklater : She gave such a entertaining performance. She plays the older sister of the film and portrays it so well onscreen. When Ellar and Lorelei were onscreen together they acted like real brother and sister. The chemistry felt real and organic it was great. The emotion she gives in her performance is I love my family but I want to have fun while were young. When she delivered her dialogue and looked at the emotion on her face it just felt real which Is great she just got into the role. She didn't play the character she went under the skin of the character. So we get to see different layers of her character throughout the film which is great. I loved her performance.
Richard Linklater : His direction of this film is perfection. This film is shot over a period of 12 years and he is the only director I have seen who can make that transition smoothly onscreen and still entertain you. He had great actors to play these wonderful characters the setting for the film was beautiful. The music fit the film perfectly. He deserves to win the Oscar for best director hands down. The story was so intriguing and entertaining it was a well written story. This film is a masterpiece he did a excellent job at directing this wonderful film.
The Lighting : It felt bright at the upbeat moments and low key at the more emotional scenes. I loved the lighting choice for this film. Great job guys.
The Cinematography : It was beautifully shot the shots in the end of the film was spectacular. It just made you feel like you were experiencing it with him. Great job guys.
The Soundtrack : The choice of songs for this film was excellent. Like Coldplay's song "Yellow"or Family of the Year "Hero". The music fit the film perfectly. I love this soundtrack definitely worth downloading on iTunes.
