Movie Review : Bill And Ted Face The Music
Bill And Ted Face The Music
This is a film the world needs right now! It’s a fun, hilarious and enjoyable film that had me smiling the whole way through. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters deliver fun performance with so much heart packed in it. This isn’t just a rehash of the first or second film but brings the franchise into new territory without loosing the fun spirit the magic of what made the films so memorable. It’s not only a film that delivers on the laughs in a very natural and genuine way that didn’t feel forced but brings amounts of heart and emotion that will touch you and may even make you cry which I never thought a Bill And Ted Film would do. If we needed a Bill and Ted film 2020 was the year we needed them the most. It’s a fun laugh out loud sequel that also brings heart and touching emotion that may bring a tear to your eye.
Firstly, The film dose not retread similar water from the past films. It’s a fantastic conclusion to all three films that left me very satisfied with how they wrapped the story of the wild stallions together. Sure it has a bit of familiar beats but for the most part it’s very different in its execution of how the story was told giving a surprising amount of emotion I didn’t expect which was incredibly well done and didn’t seem cheesy or forced at all. The film tackles a lot of themes that is actually very heavy handed as it goes through the themes of aging, regret and looking at a way to lead a positive life. The film dose not feel like a nostalgia trip with constant fan servicing but crafts the story in a way to bring the franchise into new ground it has never gone before. It picks up many years after the last film and brings in great genuine moments of laughter without it seeing to excessive but also knowing when to pull back and show more emotional beats that also show different siders to the characters we had not seen before. This films plot definitely sheds more layers back and is way better then its predecessors as it not only delves into deep territory that not only develops the characters in ways we had not seen before but it has this two way punch of emotion and comedy that mixes so well. It never gets lost in its own style but stays firmly grounded and has so much heart that has you smiling all the way through.
Secondly, The performances from the entire cast is fantastic Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters deliver hilarious committed performances you cannot help but fall in love with. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters return to the roles that launched them into superstardom and are now much older but bring new qualities to the beloved characters that we have come to love with great new layers that they peel back. The Bill And Ted from the first and second film has developed greatly by the third instalment and both of them don’t just do what they did with the characters way back when but they both delve into new areas with their respected characters by showing what has happened to them overtime and they both balance a great amount of comedy and drama through their performances. Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy - Paine both give amazing supporting turns as Bill and Ted’s daughters in such fun and hilarious performances. They both have such electric chemistry I am anxiously awaiting for their own spinoff series as their comedic timing and fantastic ability to soak up the mannerisms of their fathers was so well done. Then you also have the always great William Sadler who once again steals the show with his fantastic and utterly hilarious turn as Death. He has this ability to dominant the screen with his fantastic onscreen charisma and you cannot look away as he brings such an over the top performance that you can’t help but get swept up into. This entire cast all deliver great performances across the board.
Lastly, Bill And Ted Face The Music is a love letter to the fans who have loved the franchise from the very beginning. It not only gives a great closing chapter to one of the greatest comedy trilogies of all time. It also is able to bring the characters and plot line into new territory without having to rely on the past films to carry them forward. Its great comedy that will have you laughing all the way through is fantastically well written and delivered by its actors. As well as its surprising amount of heart that will genuinely move you Bill And Ted Face The Music is a terrific film that you will want to watch again and again and as the Wild Stallions would put it this film is most excellent. I highly recommend
people check this film out.
The film revolves around the Wild Stallions many years later who had still not written the song that reunited the whole world and they are brought to write that very song in a day or else earth will crumble as they know it
Rated PG - 13 : some language
Keanu Reeves : Keanu delivers a hilarious turn as Ted once again in Bill and Ted Face The Music. Reeves has now played the role for three films so he knows exactly how Ted ticks and what qualities to bring to the role that would work for him. What is so great to what Keanu brings to his character this time compared to the last two times is the sense of time that has passed since we last saw him. He brings the fun spirit that we have come to love from Ted throughout all three films but it is the emotional baggage he carries this time around that really stuck with me. Their are many scenes in the film where he had the opportunity to use comedy in certain moments but pulls back quite a bit to show more depth to Ted we had not seen before. Keanu steps up to the task of taking on this beloved character one more time but this time by giving him more depth then ever before showing how the years have worn off on him and how he does have regrets and things that do haunt him but dose not address them. It is incredible acting by Keanu as you can see the real raw emotion in his eyes but at the same time not getting so driven by emotion that he never looses focuses on the fun loving aspect of Ted as well because he knows when to tone down the serious driven elements and let the comedy take over and when it does wow does he deliver greatly. In the sense he knows exactly when is the right moment to strike in terms of comedy it never would feel forced or awkward because it always would land greatly. Keanu delves deeper into Ted more than ever but also keeps the fun loving aspect of him we have come to enjoy by Reeves. Its a performance that is very complex and very layered in character depth as he could of easily of just given us what we have seen from this character two times before but he dose not he goes into places emotionally the character has never been. Which not only is a great testament to his range for the character but also keeps the character ever evolving and never is repeating old traits of himself. Keanu has such fun with this role and you can tel by the sheer fun he is having onscreen and the great chemistry he also shares with Alex Winters. It is a truly hilarious and also greatly emotionally driven performance that will have you laughing and even maybe tearing up.
Dean Parisot : Dean directs this film masterfully. I have always loved Dean’s approach to comedy as he has given greatly directed films such as Galaxy Quest And Fun with Dick and Jane. So I know he is a very capable Comedic director that can land the comedy in a very well crafted way. He never directed the first two films so this was totally new territory to Dean. So what I love with his approach to the third film was that he didn’t want it to be a carbon copy of the first two films. But he wanted to elevate the third film to new heights and give the characters obstacles they have never faced before. His approach to the story being them in a way failures and never achieved the song they were supposed to write those many years ago gives an added emotional weight to the story that was so effective. he lays fantastic groundwork for the emotional beats of the story as their are very well written and shown emotional moments that do feel earned and not cheesy or out of place. He is able to bring an amount of depth we have not seen from these characters and it was so refreshing because like I mentioned it keeps the characters evolving and we keep learning new things about them instead of them being one dimensional. Then theirs his great ability to shift it to the comedy when it is needed as the jokes land and it never felt out of place ever but the jokes were greatly placed and never felt excessive. Dean was able to bring a great conclusion to a fantastic comedy trilogy without having to rely on the past films. Dean Parisot overall does the unprecedented and makes the final film the best and truly delivers all the goods.
