Movie Review : Jay & Silent Bob Reboot

Jay & Silent Bob Reboot
This film such freaking fun Kevin Smith and Jason Mews delivers one of the funniest feel good comedies of the year! This film has such great laugh out moments that almost had me in tears of laughter but even with the great comedy the film delivers a great deal of emotional punch you don’t expect it to hit which it does and it does it so well. It is a pure joyous fun ride with these two guys getting into insane silly antics along their way to Hollywood and you can’t help but smile all the way through and have so much fun.

Firstly, This is another fun pairing of the duo of Jay and Silent Bob as when we were first introduced to them back in the movie Clerks they brought such a hilarious paring we still love to watch to this day and here they bring the charm that made them so fun to watch. Jason Mewes shines in this film giving a solid comedic but also very dramatic turn as Jay and Kevin Smith gives another hilarious turn as Silent Bob. What makes this film so damn fun was this film was not a jokes per minute film but it knew when to take a breather and establish characters and even shift the tone at times for more dramatic moments that actually worked very well. As the film gets into some very silly antics for sure but it never felt like it was just placed their for a useless gag majority of the jokes all landed and were well thought out that made me laugh all the way through but it also was able to also introduce new characters and expand upon the universe it’s created but also the film is able to take notice of the more serious Elements and not have to feel the need to always interject it with humour but let it breath and explore different tones that work and actually almost made me tear up in places. So the ability for them to not just give a one note comedy but a comedy with a lot of heart and depth is what makes it so fun to watch as well it works on so many levels due to the fun performances and the hilarious writing.

Secondly, The film is so meta and I love that it is even aware that it’s a reboot and the charm of this film is that it breaks the forth wall constantly which to some people can seem annoying but I thought it worked so well as they were able to really talk about such fun pop culture stuff through this film and work it in a way that didn’t feel just put in their for the sake of being relevant but actually for really witty comedic use that sticks. The approach of style brought to this film is so damn fun as they don’t take themselves to seriously with the plot they just try to have fun but also have a great emotional heart to it that was so effective. As now they are older and we see what has happened to them over the years and I liked that aspect that they didn’t shy away from that but really fully embraced it and used it as a smart plot device for the narrative.

Overall Jay And Silent Bob Reboot was a hilarious fun time that I will definitely rewatch as it’s packed with tons of heart, humour and pop culture references everywhere with a solid story that will have you engaged from start to finish this is one of the most feel good comedies i have seen this year I definitely recommend people check this film out.

This film centres on Jay And Silent Bob many years later as they are now legally not allowed to use their names in any capacity they set their sights on going to Hollywood to clear their name and get the rights to their name back

Rated R : for pervasive strong crude sexual content, language throughout, drug use and some nudity

Jason Mewes : Jason delivers a great comedic performance full of dramatic depth that will impressed me. I saw Jason earlier in another film with the Madness In The Method which I thought he also was fantastic in and here he gives another solid performance dominating the screen with some truly laugh out loud moments but also also being able to step up to the plate for the more tender moments as well. As he plays a version of Jay that is now aged and many years have gone by so their is a certain amount of shift that the character has now and looks at things differently it’s most definitely a way different portrayal then what we had seen from him in previous performances of this character as this time around brings a layer of emotion to him we hadn’t seen explored really ever in the previous film as he’s more known for providing laughs just like Kevin Smith’s character not dramatic heavy moments which he does do here and their impactful as he realizes he is a father but for the entire film the girl that is his daughter dose not know that and so he has this massive secret he knows and theirs moments he just will look at her and smile with a sparkle in his eye that really warms my heart and he will be so protective but he can’t tell her and so that restraint on him not being able to is so compelling as he conveys such great emotional weight while while still giving a great comedic performance as well as he has fantastic timing for his jokes and knows when it will land and then it just makes you erupt in laughter he gives such a different portrayal of this character that found refreshing but also so brilliant as it’s not a one dimensional character portrayal he’s giving he shows so many different colours and really makes his performance truly stick out Jason Mewes delivers a fantastic comedic performance with such emotional heart.

Kevin Smith : Smith gives a terrific directed film with a fantastic follow up to Jay And Silent Bob and their many Adventures. Kevin makes a very different Jay and Silent Bob film which is why I also like it so much as much as Clerks and Jay And Silent Bob strikes back are such enjoyable films this film really impacted me and it’s because of the tones that Kevin hits upon in the film he talks about Fatherhood, Older age and also friendship and of course humour injected into it but he takes a rather different approach to the character I really liked as it was different and it also had a great  strong narrative that wasn’t one dimensional but really explored new aspects of the character we hadn’t seen before. He did a great job at knowing when to shift what i mean by that is that this film is yes a comedy but he doesn’t use a joker per minute which if he did could of got tiring fast but it didn’t as he knew when to give that a break for a few minutes and really establish the characters and show the more smaller intimate moments that didn’t need comedy in order to get it to flow I loved that as well as the fact he packs so much pop culture references in here it was such a delight he crafted such a fun film full of heart that you will want to watch over and over as this honestly is one of my favourite films of his as it’s funny it’s emotional it’s a hilarious pop culture galore film it’s a blast and Kevin really crafted a great story that explored new themes he hasn’t before and also introducing new characters that were well fleshed out and interesting. He does a solid job at bringing this story to the screen.
