Movie Review : The Peanut Butter Falcon

The Peanut Butter Falcon
This is a wholesome feel good movie with a lot of heart and soul! The Peanut Butter Falcon had me smiling all the way through as it’s just about enjoying life and enjoying the small things. Shia LaBeouf gives one of his finest performances to date and the film is a non stop fun fest of humour and heart but it’s also able to have the smaller more emotional moments at times in the film and really connect with you and even make you tear up a bit The Peanut Butter Falcon is a film that will have everyone grinning and smiling.

Firstly, The film is a great comedy and drama as the film never feels one handed its a two handed tone film that balances between a sheer joyous adventure but with a good amount of heavy emotion as well too. The film tackles the treatment of how we look at people with special needs and how we can’t treat them like their glass you need to let them live they deserve the joys of life that everyone else is allowed and that is the undertone that this film tells the audience and it’s a important one that is handled very well. As the film has a very simple narrative and I liked their approach to it as it’s about the journey and the film shows the great connections these characters make alone the way and the way the story was structured layered and written was so well done. As it felt very authentic and natural and the tone and feel of the frame was perfect for this film. Its got a lot of heart and wants people to have a good time but also walk away from it  feeling like you learned something and I love that.

Secondly, The performances from the entire cast was solid! The film shows a great performance from Shia like I mentioned but as well as Dakota Johnson gets a great supporting role in here too to show off her dramatic chops once again. Zack Gottsagen delivers a fantastic breakout performance that will warm your heart and you love every moment he’s on the screen as he gives such a enjoyable leading performance that has you smiling. All the actors involved all were fantastic and you really believed their chemistry and onscreen connection the cast are superb.

Lastly, The Peanut Butter Falcon is one of the feel good films of the year as it shows the simple things in life and to enjoy every moment. As the film teaches us to have fun at the same time it’s able to also deliver some very heavy handed dramatic moments that will have you tearing up. The performances from Shia and the cast are fantastic and this film is such fun to be had everyone should go see this film. The Peanut Butter Falcon is fantastic!

This film centres around a boy with Down syndrome who runs away from his nursing home and decides to go out their and Pursue a life as a wrestler

Rated PG : 13 : for thematic content, language throughout, some violence and smoking

Shia LaBeouf : Shia gives one of his finest performances of his career! Shia delves deep into a incredible dramatic turn here that is amazing to witness unfold onscreen. Shia LaBeouf has given good performances in small indie films before but this is something else he is channeling something else emotionally we haven’t seen from him before. He plays this renegade guy who is on the run for the entire film and at first he is very emotionally closed off and is very emotionally reserved which Shia brings greatly to those moments as he shows sides to his acting that we had yet to see. Then as the film progresses he peels back his guard and really opens up emotionally to the kid he comes across and at first is very defensive and quiet stern but over the course of the film he creates this connection with the kid that is so sweet and so loving. Shia has Never shown such emotion like this before as their are a great handful of moments in the film that require him to be incredibly serious with a lot of emotion which he brings as he brings like I mentioned this toughness and hardness to his character as their is pain in his eyes and keeps to himself and has moments of sadness looking back on his past of a tragedy of his and Shia really shines in this film as when he delivers his emotional dialogue he makes it hit with impact as he makes you feel like he means what he says it sounds so genuine and you get swept up in every aspect of his performance. He also brings a great amount of humour to his performance as well as he has a great amount of dry humour that is genuinely funny and it lands every time  but he also a great amount of charm onto of all that he has this twinkle in his eye that makes you smile. He really wraps so much into this performance and goes places emotionally he hasn’t shown before he brings the heavy handed emotion but also the lighthearted fun that is shown so magnificently by Shia in truly one of the best performances he has ever done. He goes through such a character arc that shows his great emotional strength as an actor and its marvellous to watch Shia shines in a truly terrific performance here.

Tyler Nelson & Micheal Schwartz : Tyler And Micheal gave one of the best directorial debuts in recent time! Here they both screenwrote  and direct this film with such great talent. They crafted such a simple but layered story with great heart and soul that makes you smile all the way through this film. This film felt so authentic and realistic in its telling of it’s story. It felt like so real in the sense that it felt very much like a documentary in its sense of authentic storytelling. I felt like I was observing this guys story and his many adventures and him wanting to just have fun and enjoy his life that approach they brought to the screen was genius. As they got such solid performances from its actors and decide to just make the story simple and show these people enjoying the simple things in life and I love that aspect of it. As the film tells people to have fun and not to treat people with special needs any different then everyone else and that is quite a powerful message they wove into their story through this film. As the film makes you feel so happy when I say they crafted a feel good film they truly did and for a directorial debut this is so impressive as they have given a great film full of fun but also being able to show the heavy handed emotional scenes so well and get you to shed a tear even with their ability to handle the more hard hitting moments and that is another great benefit is their ability to shift tones and have a even keel of them was perfectly executed. Tyler And Micheal have given us one of the most feel good films in recent time with solid performances and authentic and genuine happiness that you can’t help but love such great solid direction by these two I can’t wait to see what they do next.
