Movie Review : Christopher Robin

Christopher Robin
This film is a fun filled enjoyable flick! Christopher Robin is a pure warm hearted fun film to watch as it takes on the same tropes as Hook. That film was about a man who forgot how to have fun and returns to his childhood roots and this film uses the same formula but in a way makes itself its own.

First off, this film I had no high expectations for but I didn’t have them very low either it gave me exactly what I expected a pure icing fun filled time with characters we have grown up with and their crazy adventures they embark on. Now I’ll say the negative things I had with this film first. This film brings all the characters we love to screen but it’s the pacing that really bugged me. I loved the characters we all do but it’s the pacing that irritated me hugely. This film is a hour and forty four minutes it could of easily of been an hour and twenty minutes but it dose overstay it’s welcome by dragging the runtime further  out then it should of.

The second problem I had, to many characters not enough screen time. Their are so many characters from the world of Winnie the Pooh that I understand it would be hard to cram all of them into one single film. That being said some of the less characters like Rabbit and Roo fall into the background and get very little screen time for which I cannot understand why they didn’t get the same amount as the other characters. If your going to tell a Winnie the Pooh story give all of them the same amount of screen time instead of playing pick favourites.

The last issue I had was the predictable ending. As you know I don’t say spoilers but this film has a plot line that has been done before and it’s a family film so we know how it will end it uses tropes and styles that came before it and did it ruin my overall experience? No not at all but I felt like they could of been more creative in their narrative. I loved the message woven into the film and the pure heart that I love it’s just the plot could of done a million different routes for it to go but instead went the easy way.

Now the positives, this film creates a fun atmosphere to leave you smiling when it’s all over. Christopher Robin delivers on giving you a great time from the moment Pooh and the other characters are on screen it’s non stop fun with great emotional moments as well as hilarious moments and it really brings out the childhood wonder out of everyone. I was amazed how emotional It did get at times but I loved it for doing that because much family films don’t do that and it had the courage to do so.

Secondly, the cast is magnificent! All of the voice actors did a splendid job at lending their voices to these iconic characters. All of them sounded just like the originals and all contributed greatly to the film their was never a moment I wasn’t having fun when they were onscreen. But I also have to mention Ewan McGregor also brings great solid work to the film as well.

Lastly, yes this film has its share of flaws but it’s the heartwarming message and great time spent with these characters that’s worth watching. Christopher Robin is a film the world needs right now I recommend everyone see this film.

Rated PG : some action

Brad Garrett : Brad stole the show for so many ways! I never thought that Eeyore would be the scene stealer but here we are. Brad brought the perfect style to the character that worked amazingly. In the film he for me gave me the most laughs his timing for his delivery of the humour he would give was perfect because it wasn’t every five seconds but he picked and chose which moments would evoke the best moment to inject a joke into it and that approach worked. He sounded like the original voice actor but it wasn’t a imitation of the previous voice actors that came before him but gives his own spin on it giving great dry humour to the character and really relishing in the character. He just brought the character to such life with his fantastic charisma and fantastic spin on the character that was the best part of the film for me. Overall Brad gives this character justice by going above and beyond.

Marc Forster : Forster brings the heart and justice to these great characters! Forster is widely known for his work on finding Neverland and world war Z but this time around he gives it a go on a children’s film and his style and the source material really do work to it’s benefit. The choice to balance out the adult subject matter and the light hearted and more fun moments was well fleshed out but at times his choice to go in depth to the adult plot points rather then the fun moments causes it to feel bleak at times. He also gets fantastic work from the voice actors in the film as well as Ewan. He just has this great tone to the film that gives the kids the fun and laughs but also can teach the parents something as well he made a film to appeal to everyone and I loved that. He has great moments of emotion, laughter and it’s the perfect amount Marc Forster puts his stamp on Winnie the Pooh with his style and knocks it out of the park.
