Movie Review : Tully

Tully
This film is a hilarious dramatic and well acted portrayal of parenthood. Jason Reitman has captured the struggles of raising kids and everything that comes in between so well and he dose it in a way that shows this raw realistic scope to the screen that is so engaging to watch. Anchored by a outstanding performance by Charlize Theron who gives an award caliber performance. This film shows the highs and lows of parenthood and it’s great truth and Jason’s style on the subject showcases a truly enjoyable film that is funny, relatable, heartbreaking and an all around great film that you’ll be glad you saw.

This film centres around a woman who’s raising 2 kids with a third on the way but when she realizes that she needs more help as she can’t do it all herself she gets a Night Nanny to watch her kids while she gets rest and it results in great and unexpected things.

Rated R : language some sexuality/ nudity

Charlize Theron : Theron is a incredible force to be reckoned with in this film. She plays a mother who’s struggling to raise her kids and keep it all together and she just knocks it out of the park. She showcases the character in such a real and truthful depiction and she comes across onscreen so real and genuine it’s pure genius. She has this look of sheer stress and weight on her shoulders that you see and feel it her emotional range is incredible in the film. She never brings less then her best she is 100 percent committed to the screen giving her all she goes through so many layers of emotion of anger frustration and just pain and it hits you like a wave and she just becomes this character. She lifted the character off the page and brought it to life with crackling delivery to her lines and a captivating take on this character. She is such a magnetic force in this film you can’t take your eyes off of her and overall gives a truly great Oscar caliber performance that shouldn’t be overlooked. An overall astonishing piece of acting once again from the great Charlize.

Jason Reitman : Jason is one of the best indie drama directors in the business. This man knows how to give the audience something new and something that is rooted in reality that everyone can relate to. He gave us Juno the struggles of being a teenager then up in the air the struggles of the job and then Tully the struggles of motherhood it sounds like a repetitive style but he dose it in a way that just keeps you engaged all the way through. In this one he really shows the truth and honesty of raising kids and how it’s no cakewalk and it is wrapped in drama sprinkled with great witty humour that just blends together perfectly helmed by a terrific lead performance from Theron. He has this way of showcasing great stories like I said that are relatable and he dose it again greatly here with great wit but also shows the heartbreaking things that come with it too. And I love that he balances all of it out perfectly so when you finish watching it you see something from another point of view and are glad you saw it that’s what Jason dose and dose it again in amazing flare.
