Movie Review : ThoroughBreads

Thoroughbreds
This film is quite interesting! This film sold itself as a American Psycho meets Heathers which peaked my interest as i love both of those films and is the core reason I watched this film to see if it would have that flare which it dose and doesn’t. I’ll explain it the dark undertone is absolutely their one hundred percent but the execution of the dark parts come and go. Their are moments and they just talk about it and then at the end you see the real meat of the story is towards the end is when it gets good. Don’t get me wrong I liked the film it just marketed itself wrong and had pacing issues that for me were hard to ignore. This is no American Psycho or heathers it’s a indie dark drama mixed with creepy undertones.

What I did like was The acting though. The two performances that stood out to me was Olivia Cooke and the late great Anton Yelchin in one of his final performances. Those two really Carry the film for me and being a great contribution to the film with great flare.

This film is enjoyable it has a interesting story at the heart of it with solid acting but it isn’t a dark stylish film that it marketed itself out to be I did enjoy it and do recommend it.

Rated R : disturbing content, language, bloody image

When a emotionally closed off girl meets an emotionally open girl they become great friends but when one of their fathers becomes a pain her friend recommends murdering him.

Olivia Cooke : Olivia is astonishing in this film. She has given amazing work from her supporting work on Bates Motel to her great work in her indie films like Me Earl and The Dying Girl and then this she really is a on a great path as an actress getting really great work. In this film she plays this unstable and unbalanced girl with no emotional capacity whatsoever and is a psychopath in many ways that you find out and the way Olivia showcases her on the big screen was phenomenal. Her ability to show such great layers and range was fantastic to watch. She had this way of delivering dialogue in such a quick way that had heavy handed words if just fell out of her mouth and what she says never impacts her which when you see her do it onscreen is amazing. She brings a darkness and emotional vulnerability to her performance that is so Intriguing to watch. She is so dry with her delivery but that’s the goal that’s her character and she knows it out of the park with such great style. She steals the show with her great work here. She can be so real and emotional and then just be creepy and the transitions she makes is great and so believable so can switch it within seconds. Overall a truly solid performance from Olivia.

Anton Yelchin : Anton gives a astonishing performance in one of his final performances that just blows you away. Anton has a Supporting role in this film and isn’t in it for as much as I thought but with the screen time he dose have damn he’s brilliant. He plays this sort of drifter and on the edge type of character and how he brings it to the screen with such force. He has this unknown quality to him that is mysterious but then he can break down to tears and be so vulnerable that you feel for him and he crackles on the screen with great emotional depth and range. I wish he was in the film for more as he really was incredible and brought such life to the film with his great supporting turn in the film. The way he delivers his dialogue he is so committed giving his all and really making it feel genuine. Overall he delivers a stunning supporting performance

Corey Finley : This Guy has crafted a interesting film. He has used drama surrounded with dark undertones to showcase this interesting tale. The style he uses was interesting as he divided it into chapters which very few films do and he also has great performances from the cast and keeps the audience into the film from the strong acting and compelling narrative at hand. It can get a little lost at times with its pacing and can slow down the film but besides that he did a good job with a good script and turned it into a solid film. Great direction.
