Movie Review : Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom
This film is so much damn fun! First off I have to say this is a great predecessor to the first Jurassic world film that came out a few years ago and it delivers such a great message and good time. It is miles better then lost world and Jurassic park 3 as far as sequels go and it has a great moral message as well to walk away with.
Firstly, I’ll talk about what I liked I thought the film had a great set up and really gets the audience interest by starting off with a fantastic action sequence and then unfolding a great message which is we have to be carful with the creatures around us and take care of them. It also discusses the tones of captivity with animals and how they should be let out in their natural habitat which really was used greatly throughout the film and I love that they were able to discuss those heavy topics while also delivering a great rounded sequel at the same time. Also I thought the sequences with the Dinosaurs were greatly done with the visuals and the action set pieces as well.
Now for the parts that didn’t do so well, the film suffers from at times feeling like an overuse of CGI which is fine that they use it by their was so much explosions and destruction that the new characters that were introduced never really got the character arcs that they deserved and instead was traded in for more action scenes. So I thought it could of benefited greatly if we had more interaction scenes and moments with the characters instead of constant action I thought that should of been handled better. As well as the use of Jeff Goldblum when I first heard he was going to reprise his role as Ian Malcom I was thrilled to hear that but I was concerned he was just going to be a brief cameo rather then an actual part of the film which is what happened. They have an opening scene with him and one at the end he probably only has 3 minutes worth of screen time and it’s disappointing because he could of been used in such a better way he was totally underused and felt like he was just their for a throwback factor instead of just contributing to the film. So I felt he could of been used more then what he was given onscreen.
Overall the film is a fun action packed dinosaur extravaganza with great undertones but not without its fair share of flaws as well this film roars with excitement and is a very entertaining and great sequel that will leave you entertained.
This film centres around the Dinosaurs and how since the park got shut down how the animals now pose a threat to society and comes to the moral argument should we save them and risk being run over by the creatures or let them die?
Rated PG - 13 : for intense sequences of science fiction violence and peril
Chris Pratt : Pratt again delivers another fun filled performance as everyone’s favourite Dinosaur whisperer! Chris returns to his role as Owen but this time with more rough around the edges and has changed since the park closed becoming more closed off and not as adventurous. It was a bold move to take the character but I thought that Pratt did an exceptional job bringing more of an emotional weight to his take on Owen this time around he hardly has any funny moments and really goes for the more dramatic elements which really strengthen his character and shows how great Pratt is. Pratt really evolves his character in this film and shows sides we had not seen in the first one and how the park closing really did make an impact on him and what he’s been up to since but he also still has this sly sarcastic persona we grew to love still while also showing new layers and exploring places emotionally we haven’t seen before. He has so much fun with this character onscreen you can tell and it’s impossible not to be smiling from what he’s giving onscreen he just is an absolute joy to watch and brings another truly solid performance as Owen showing more to him in this one and really showing an arc for his character that we didn’t get before while doing in in such a great way and making it all seem believable. Overall Pratt delivers a great second outing as Owen bringing something new that we haven’t seen before and just giving the audience a entertaining performance to see.
J.A. Bayona : Bayona has done an incredible job here. This guy directed the Impossible a terrific film so I know his style and what he can do behind the camera. J.A. Has crafted a terrific film here with great undertones I never thought he’d go for. First off I didn’t know if he was capable of pulling off such a big budget feast as he usually dose smaller work but he really steps up to the plate and delivers a great film here. He was able to make it a great follow up to the first film while also bringing something new to the table and taking it in a direction we haven’t seen before with serious undertones of captivity and the treatment of our creatures which I loved how he wove that into the story. But also not loosing that fun popcorn feel to it and keeping that spectacle onscreen in great style. On top of getting solid performances from the cast and really bringing his own style to it that just breathed such life into the franchise. His ability to balance the heavy tones with the action element was so well handled And how he was able to shift between the two and not let the one or other overpower each other. I just loved the look and feel he brought to the screen it was fantastic great job here great direction.
