Movie Review : Rough Night
Rough Night
This film did what Snatched couldn't achieve great chemistry and an all around fun movie! Rough Night has been receiving mixed reviews I will say I enjoyed it even though the jokes are coming every five seconds I throughly enjoyed this film due to the great comedy fantastic chemistry within the cast. And surprisingly enough I would have to say Kate McKinnon stole the show with her hilarious performance in this film.
What this film reminded me of was the hangover only a female version and it's so entertaining. What I enjoyed as well was the mix up in tones when you think it's going to be a cheesy over the top bachelor film which we've seen hundreds of times it takes a dark turn and I love that it throws you off guard and goes for something different. The film is just an enjoyable film you can watch if your in the mood for a good laugh overall Rough Night was an enjoyable film.
This film revolves around five friends who have been friends since college and reunite when one of them is getting married so they go to Miami to have the best bachelor party ever but things take a turn for the unexpected when a stripper ends up dead
Rated R : for crude sexual content, language throughout, drug use and brief bloody images
Kate McKinnon : Kate steals the show in this hilarious comedy! Kate last year did the film Ghostbusters which received mixed reviews despite that film as a whole one thing people agreed on was Kate's fantastic comedic talent which she brings once again to this film and probably even better then her previous work. Kate plays a foreign friend from Australia and the role from the wrong actor could of made the character come off offensive and insulting but Kate was the best choice and she dose incredible work with this role. In the film she is the comic figure really the entire cast carries a good amount of humour to their performance and characters but I would say Kate had the most with her character and it was brilliant. Her delivery was perfect it was never to much or got annoying. Because when you have the comic relief who is giving jokes a mile a second it can get tiring fast because that is their sole purpose in the film but Kate doesn't do that at all she's the complete opposite she timed her comedic beats just right. She knew when to say the best lines at the right moments and it always landed and their was never a moment where I wasn't enjoying her performance. She gave a hilarious supporting performance that is fantastic.
Lucia Aniello : Lucia gives great direction to this comedic film! Lucia was able to capture a truly great cast with explosive onscreen chemistry that seemed so genuine. Also doing a marvellous Job at showing different shifts in tone because it's targeted as a comedy but I love how like I said earlier it takes a turn and instead of making it to dark she keeps it humorous but also serious and it's a very dark comedy like kind of film which I think she achieved quite well while also maintaining a great set of laughs throughout the film. She also never made the comedy feel forced at any part of the film it was timed perfectly because she also wrote this film and i think she timed the comedy well while also making the characters likeable and not just shallow comedy characters just plastered onscreen. Which a lot of directors do they make recyclable characters and focus more on the story where it should be both things having equal amounts of attention to capture a great comedy which I think she did very well. Overall great direction and great writing.
The Lighting : The tones were very colourful! It felt like your usual blend of comedy colours really. It was a mix of yellow gold with blue that really made the frame pop out and stand out which I liked overall the lighting was ok.
The Cinematography : The camerawork was good their were some wide spread shots I really enjoyed which I haven't seen in a comedy in a while so that was nice I just liked the moment of the camera well done guys.
The Soundtrack : it had your typical pop beats. The film supplies a good amount of fun songs in the film since it's a bachelor party film the music is very upbeat which was nice and is worth listening too.
