Movie Review : Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange
This is one of marvel's most engaging and refreshing, original concept films I've seen in a long time. What makes this film stand out is it's ability to amaze you with state of the art visual effects that is probably the best visuals I've seen since Inception. As well as its way of being able to take a chance With a character the audience isn't familiar with and tell its story and it worked on so many levels. I felt engaged not only with the great visuals and plot but as well as the fantastic characters onscreen Marvel delivers once again another incredible story.

Tells the story of a man by the name of Stephen Strange who is a well accomplished surgeon has his life forever change after he suffers incredible damage to his hands in a life threatening car crash. He has nerve damage to his hands and step by step Mr. Strange goes to Lengths to make sure he will heal his hands but when he goes to find the medicine that will heal his hands he sees things and learns things he never thought was possible and would change his life forever.

Rated PG - 13 : for sci-fi violence, and action throughout and an intense Car sequence

Benedict Cumberbatch : Benedict delivers a fantastic performance! Going into this film I'll be honest I didn't think Cumberbatch would give a amazing performance but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only dose Benedict give a terrific performance in this film it's one of the best performances I've ever seen from him. He brings such depth and passion to this interesting character that is so complex and fascinating. He was able to make the character feel relatable in many ways sure he's a superhero who has powers. It's the unwillingness to give up and do the right thing which anyone can relate to in any level. The way he was able to get me to invest and care for his character was from his great talent of emotion he showcased onscreen. He was emotionally engaging and when he spoke in such anger and pain I felt that it felt genuine and that he truly was this character and committing every part of him to this role. Benedict also was great at striking the humour at times to he balanced both sides of the scale beautifully showing both serious emotional core and humour. The look in his eye and anger in his voice he just made the character come to life his acting was top notch in the film. I cannot wait to see Benedict back as Dr. Strange overall Cumberbatch delivers an Outstanding performance.

Scott Derrickson : Scott delivers once again fantastic direction to the big screen! Scott gave us a few years back the horror epic that was sinister and again delivers on a grand scale with this superhero adventure. Scott's style of direction is great in this film he lets you spend time with the characters finding out what their like and then moving to the action and it's nice he took his time instead of rushing it which is a mistake many directors make when doing a superhero film. Not only did he ground the characters well with fantastic pacing but also he cast the right actors for the roles and getting great performances from the cast. I also can't ignore his visual effects he brought to the film it was pure genius visuals that were truly amazing. Scott did a great job at helming this incredible film great job Scott!

The Lighting : the tones of colour and texture were the right choices for the right time! It would transition the colours in the beginning it being grey and pale like. Then would change to more colourful tones like purple and yellow which were mixed right to showcase this rich look to the frame great job guys.

The Cinematography : The camerawork in this film is fantastic. Like I said the visuals were great but it wouldn't be as good without the right framing and the right shots to show those great eye popping visuals. It was great at showing large scale scenes and getting the audience in the middle of the action a job well down guys.

The Visual Effects : The visual's in this film was truly phenomenal and when I saw Phenomenal that's one out of many words I can use to describe the way they did the effects in this film. I haven't seen such mind bending work from a visual effects team since inception it is an art form that isn't used really anymore and when done well should be appreciated for their hard work on something that must not of been easy to do. It's amazing pure excellence to the highest degree their we're bending buildings that would go down into other buildings and turning back time it was jaw dropping. These visuals need and should get a nomination at the Oscars for their work on this film overall genius work.

The Score : The music was mesmerizing from start to finish! It would feel so calm and slow in the beginning slowly winding up only to go loud and feel like an epic action extravaganza. The music was beautifully crafted and composed to fit the Emotional core of the scenes and also the action sequences to. It knew when it was the right time to have the right sounds to express the scene overall fantastic score.
