Movie Review : The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys
This film was fantastic Shane Black's best film since Lethal Weapon! This film is the rare buddy comedy that comes once in a blue moon that packs the comedy along with mixing the action and crime feel to it along with so much heart and its result is amazing. Especially the chemistry that Ryan and Russell have onscreen is outstanding. This film is one of the years best films.

Two private investigators are on the run after a adult film star named Amelia will they find her or will they be to late?

Rated R : language, nudity, intense action sequences

Ryan Gosling : steals the scene with his truly hilarious performance! Ryan delivers on all levels packing the comedy wit and drama in his performance stealing each frame of the film with his genius acting. In this film he plays a private investigator who has an alcoholic problem shining his dramatic abilities in this broken character. But also being able to channel in the hilarious comedic acting as well he balances it perfectly. One minute he can bring you to tears of laughter the next he can break your heart and he dose it so well making his performance genuine and real. He showcases his talent very well in this film he's not known to being in crime comedy's but he dose it so well his comedic timing is perfect. Instead of just going for straight laughs he will be serious then funny so he makes time for both sides. When he's onscreen you can't take your eyes off him he's electric he just dominated this film. This is a career best performance from Gosling. As well Ryan is more of a drama guy with films like Blue Valentine, Drive and The place beyond the pines to name a few. So when I heard he was going to do a comedy crime film I was nervous to see if he could pull it off and he sure did. He should do more crime comedy's it also proves Ryan is open to trying new things which is amazing to see him do.  As well the chemistry he shares with Crowe is electric they get along so well onscreen they are a fantastic duo. Overall Ryan delivers one of his best performances to date.

Russell Crowe : Russell gives his finest performance in years! Russell is known for doing serious thrillers and dramas but hasn't really explored the comedic pool that much and in this film he dose so and he's absolutely hilarious in this film. For Crowe to be able to crack his tough guy persona and show his more softer and funnier side is great because it shows that he can play the funny character as well and be good and entertaining at it. Just like Gosling's performance he has a serious side and balances the comedy to. One second he can be beating the crap out of someone the next he can be arguing with Gosling and making you laugh and he makes it look effortless. Crowe gives us a comedic performance which we aren't used to seeing him deliver but it works out so well he should do more crime comedy's he really excels in the genre. Overall a fantastic performance from Crowe.

Shane Black : Shane is a visionary in the buddy cop genre and has marked  his signature in Hollywood as a legendary director. This is is best work since Lethal Weapon and I'll tell you why. He is able to make the perfect film with the right kind of humour while keeping it intact with the crime a little bit of serious drama and a whole lot of heart. As well he's able to have outstanding chemistry between the actors Ryan and Russell that's just  electric. He did Iron Man 3 and I'm not trying to take anything away from that film but it seems that Black really excels in the buddy cop genre incredibly well. As well the way he was able to set this in the 70's and he really made it feel like an authentic 70's film with the lighting the music the sets everything fell into place perfectly. He was also able to bring that darkness within the characters back story's like he did in lethal weapon but was also able to have fun with the characters while dealing with a serious plot very much like lethal weapon he did it once again with this wonderful film. Only Shane could helm this fantastic film his vision could only tell this story and he executed  it so well. He crafted a fantastic film packed with great performances from the cast and a fun crime story Black delivers on every level outstanding direction from Shane once again.

The Lighting : The tones of colours in this film was excellent for the backdrop of the story. It is set in the 70's and the lighting really had that yellow goldish feel to the frame that made it feel like an authentic 1970's setting. It was simply fantastic loved the bright and nostalgic feel they did great job guys.

The Cinematography : Some worth mentioning shots! This film is packed with action and it puts you dead centre in the middle of it angling the camera places that made you feel like your experiencing it all with the characters. I loved the realistic feel the camera did loved it guys.

The Soundtrack : Since this is set in the 70's they brought the right music vibe to the picture. It had earth wind and fire along with papa was a rolling stone. But what made it standout was it didn't play the lyrics just the beat of the song and it was perfect the way they did it. Will have you tapping along.
