Televison Review : American Crime Story : The People Vs O.J. Simpson
American Crime Story :
The People Vs O.J. Simpson
This is one of the best shows of the year no doubt about it! Ryan Murphy's outstanding vision and style of direction on this series was brilliant he is a force to be reckoned with. Also the casting director deserves recognition for hiring such a strong and fantastic cast. Cuba Gooding Jr, Sara Paulson, John Travolta, David Schwimmer not only is the cast strong. The ability for the crew to not sugarcoat things and really stay true and accurate to the events that occurred is what makes this show great it gose in depth and explains details about the trial of the century we may not of known. Your going to get a lot of people who will say it dose not tell the facts because it's not a documentary sure you can look at it that way but this show has been seen by some of the actual people who worked on the case and loved it for example Marcia Clarke watched the show and is loving it that tells you they did something right with this miniseries. Overall this show is gripping, addicting I haven't been so wrapped up in a show since I first watched Breaking Bad. One of the best shows I've ever seen!
This is a anthology series that has the same style of American Horror Story only this time every different season is a true crime story this season covering the "Trial Of The Century" the 1994 O.J. Simpson Trial
14A : Disturbing content, language, some nudity and some violent images
Sarah Paulson : Sarah's performance as the prosecutor Marcia Clark is truly magnificent! From the first frame you see of her in this miniseries you are immediately drawn to her character and performance. Sarah really embodied Marcia from the outfits she had to the hair styles and just her personality all together she really breathed life into this role that deserves to get notice for her outstanding performance. Sarah has shown us she can execute a powerhouse performance in her work from Carol to her characters on the well known show American Horror Story. But what separates her performance in this show from her other work is she didn't just deliver a scene stealing performance she shows us a side to her which we have never seen before and my god it's genius. In the show she's able to be mean and incredibly angry at times then go to being sobbing on the floor and be completely emotional and vulnerable. She's so real and genuine in this show their is not one flaw in her performance. Like I said earlier about her emotional range in this show their is a a scene where she is sitting on the floor just sobbing on the floor and just the sheer heartbreak and fear you see in her eyes is so real she gives by far one of the best performances of the year Sarah is amazing best performance of her career!
Cuba Gooding Jr : Cuba's best performance since his Oscar winning role in Jerry Maguire! Cuba has proved to us over the years that he can act and give a serious performance but he hasn't done a serious performance like the one he gives in the show in a long time and my God is he brilliant in it. He's so dark at times that it's terrifying and he fully commits himself to the role holding nothing back instead of playing the role he became the character. Every line and emotion he shows onscreen is genuine and across the board outstanding acting. His ability to be able to tap into such darkness and just bring it out on camera was very scary at times but impressive because I didn't think he had that side to him but it really paid off because it made me believe him more onscreen when he was acting and made me invested in his character. From the way he walks to the way he talks he fully inhabited O.J. Simpson. He gives one of the best supporting performances I've ever seen on television and one of the best performances of his career period just a stunning performance that you can't take your eyes off of.
David Schwimmer : David gives his best performance of his career! I know it's a big thing for me to say that because he is well known for his days on the show friends. But his performance in this show is better for many other reasons such as he plays in a serious courtroom drama show and really showcases his acting abilities to his full power. I never thought David had the acting chops to go so serious into a role but he did and at times he made a tear go to my eye he was at times heartbreaking onscreen and you could feel it that's how real it felt when he was performing he just became Robert you forget your watching David he fully became that character onscreen. Every scene he's in even if it's with other actors you can't help but just watch him because their is a electricity in his performance that draws you to him and he's so compelling to watch. His face as well says it all with his emotional range he can go from laughing onscreen to just breaking down in tears and some performances you can tell it's acting but his performance didn't feel like he was just reading a script it felt real like the tears anger and happiness felt so real It brings another layer of realism and authenticity to his performance I just believed everything he said onscreen. As well he looked like the real Robert Kardashian he was the best person to be cast to play this role. Overall David delivers the best performance of his career.
Courtney B. Vance : Gives one of the most entertaining and scene stealing performances of the show. Before viewing this show I never have even heard of the actors name after viewing his work in this series I will for sure check out his future projects and past work because he's incredible in this show. He just made his performance shine in this series by the way he was able to so committed to his role and just get so wrapped up in every frame and speaking his dialogue like a preacher. As well if you look at the real Johnnie Cochran he looked the part and played the part as if he was him and it gave me chills the way he was able to tap into his layers of emotion and bring that full throttle was brilliant. He could be in front of the judge speaking to the whole court making the room his stage and be completely passionate and riveting with a jaw dropping speech but then the next he can be very emotional and a tear slowly work down his cheek. So just seeing him show different sides throughout the series and showing a truly great character arc. Courtney was amazing on the show a truly magnificent performance.
Sterling K. Brown : What a truly outstanding performance! Before watching this show I have not heard of this actors name after watching this series I will for sure watch his future work along with his past work because he's pure genius in this show. Sterling plays Christopher Darden and not only dose he look like the real life person he portrays the person accurately and brings such passion to his character. It could of been incredibly easy for this performance not to be able to shine through because of all the other great talent shown in this series but he didn't get forgotten at all because he captured the scene perfectly and left a memorable performance. In the show he was able to show like Courtney the different layers of his character and emotional acting method. When he was in a scene with Courtney my god was it intense because you see two great actors delivering their full best and its great to watch. Starling when he was in the courtroom would speak with passion in his heart and anger in his voice to fight back and it was so genuine and felt real and he just got me so wrapped up in his performance starling and Sarah's characters are probably the only two that really evolve and characters change throughout the journey of the trial. And it is great to see because then we get to see them go to different places with their performance and character and that's what they did and Starling got me at times cheering and about to cry he just got me so invested in his performance a terrific performance Starling is amazing.
Ryan Murphy : Ryan is a complete visionary that people really need to sit up and take notice that he's a force to be reckoned with. Ryan's style of direction is hit after hit with The HBO's heartbreaking film to the killer show Scream Queens to his acclaimed show American Horror Story. Ryan knows what beats to hit and how to draw the audience in and how to make a original show at the same time entertain the audience and get them to care about the characters and he dose it once again in this series. Instead of making it sugar coated in Hollywood bullshit he went dark and bloody if he had to for making sure the trial of the century was portrayed right and did a great job at doing so. As well for getting such a strong cast to play this roles while keeping the pace of the show entertaining because it's hard to make a courtroom drama entertaining for one movie to make a ten hour miniseries and stretch it out and keep the audiences interested takes talent and he pulled it off incredibly well. He made the trial feel intense, nail biting and even the bronco chase yes everyone witnessed it but what he did that was so interesting is he put you in the bronco with O.J. So you felt like you were in it with him which makes it more interesting and Ryan has did a phenomenal job with this show. He was able to get you craving for more Ryan was the best pick to helm this project and for him to use the same concept from American Horror for this new series is interesting and original and I appreciate his ability to never bore the audience and always be doing something new and infesting and that's what he did with this show Ryan dose it once again with another perfect show.
The Lighting : the tones they use throughout the show is very dark yellow and grey and it is the perfect use of lighting for the show. It really fit the emotional aspect and subject matter of it got it to really make the show shine was a great job guys.
The Cinematography : The camera work was amazing for example the Bronco chase. When they put it in the car to feel like your next to O.J that layer of realism making you feel like your with him was fantastic.
The Score : The music really became a character on its own just how the beat and Rhythm of it all just struck the emotional cord perfectly while keeping the scene intact by expressing it correctly through the medley was outstanding I loved the music very well done.
