Television Review : American Horror Story Asylum
American Horror Story Asylum
This season wasn't as good as the previous season but the performances given by Quinto, Lange and Paulson make up for it. It also has more twists and turns you don't expect the show to go. It has some scary bits this season is creepy, full of turns and a thrill ride from start to finish.
This time it takes place in a insane asylum and people get wrongly convicted, brutally punished and treated in ways no human would want anyone to go through. A series of events unfold in this place of horror and mayhem will the patients their live to tell the story or will they be 6 feet in the ground never heard from again
Rated 14A : Disturbing content, bloody violence some language and sexual abuse
Jessica Lange : Another great performance provided by Jessica again in this spectacular show. In the first season Jessica played Constance a sweet at first glance woman but had a dark side. In the second season Lange comes back but as a different character and really shows the brutal and horrific side to the darkness we didn't really see in the first season. She plays a nun sister Jude and the way she portrayed her was so good that you hated the character. Because the character she plays is down to the bone twisted and evil and when Jessica spoke from the dialogue and the emotion she was conveying in the scene was terrifying. She just gave this performance her all overall another knockout performance by Jessica once again.
Zachary Quinto : The reason this season was great was because of Zachary's transformative performance! In the first season Zachary played a very small role in the show but stood out from the cast and I mentioned how talented he was in that role. He returns once again playing another intriguing character and the performance he gives is hands down best supporting performance I have seen by a male actor on television in years. He breathed such life into this interesting character and really brought it to life onscreen. With the way he spoke to his well written dialogue he gave onscreen was chilling. Whenever he's not onscreen you miss the character because he just brings this presence to the screen that is electrifying. Overall Zachary gives the best performance of the season showing once again he is a force to be reckoned with.
Dylan McDermott : Dylan gives a terrific supporting performance in this show it blew me away! The reason I didn't mention Dylan in my review for the first season cause I didn't think his acting was that strong that I would mention it in my review. Then I saw him in the second season of this great show and he convinced me he can pull a great performance out of him and he sure did what a great scene stealing performance he gave in this season. I don't want to give to much away but the way he looked in the camera and delivered his dialogue was chilling and disturbing. Cause I didn't think that Dylan could portray that kind of dark performance but he went deep down into this character and brought it to life with such energy and Charisma. After seeing his performance in this I really think he should consider doing more dramatic films and television shows because he's outstanding when he puts his all into his performances this one is a great example Overall a outstanding performance by Dylan.
Sarah Paulson : Sarah's performance in this is breathtaking! Sarah was in the first season and we didn't get to see much of her but when she was onscreen she stole the scene. So in the second season we get to see her more and see her deliver a Emmy worthy performance. Sarah plays a patient at the asylum and the sheer pain and suffering you see her go through in the show is heartbreaking. Because Sarah convinced you that she wanted out and she just got wrapped up in every scene she really became that character it was fantastic to see a actor so dedicated to their work to give a powerhouse performance. We get to see different layers of her throughout the show you see pain, anger, joy and so many others so it was great to see her emotional range it was just brilliant. Overall Sarah delivers a phenomenal performance.
Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk : Ryan and Brad expand this marvellous and dark world! What these two creative people have done that's so brilliant is in this season they were able to like I said expand the world and introduce new characters without loosing the creepy aspect of the show. Also they use the same actors but to play different characters which I think is fantastic. I also think that's what makes the show so original and fresh is they bring stuff that you haven't seen before to the table. If they can keep the vibe they have done very well throughout the first and second season this show can become one of the greatest shows of all time.
The Lighting : It is very Dark and gritty I love it. The tones in this show is very creepy, disturbing and dark. I liked how they made it very grey and blackish it really set the mood well for the show.
The Cinematography : Nothing worth mentioning
The Score : Same as last seasons it's very low key and works itself into the scene helping transition the scene of where to go I loved it very well done.
