Movie Review : Beyond The Lights

Beyond The Lights
This is a  brilliant film! The entertaining original and  intriguing storyline grabs you pr attention and doesn't let go. Gugu Mbatha-Raw gives a fearless performance making this film one of the most refreshing films I've seen in years.

The stress and pressure pushes Noni to the edge until one night a  handsome police officer changes her world for the best

Rated PG -13 : Rating sexual content including suggestive gestures, partial nudity, language and thematic elements

Gugu Mbatha-Raw : One word describes. This performance powerhouse mind blowing!  Before watching this film I haven't heard much or seen any of her films after seeing her outstanding performance in this film I will watch all of her future projects. What she shows and delivers in this entertaining role, that got us to not take our eyes of her, was her vulnerability and her ability to show herself onscreen and expose her inner demons and break down onscreen emotionally. Some talented actors are able to channel that easily onscreen but many are to afraid to let the audience in and show that part of them. And anger and happiness she expresses was so rich. When she shows those certain emotions you believe her all the way that's what she feels in the moment and she's not just reading It off a script which makes it for a better performance is the believability. Either then her phenomenal acting abilities she was able to have electrifying  onscreen chemistry with Nate Parker. When they were in a scene together you could see and feel the connection it was pure magic. Overall loved her performance Oscar worthy.

Nate Parker : A entertaining performance! I have seen Nate in a few film before I saw this film such as Non-Stop and About Alex. So when I heard he was in this film I expected a typical performance which he doesn't do he raises the bar and delivers a more intense and emotional role. What he shows in this film that was outstanding was how he was able to connect to the character and be a very emotionally closed up person onscreen. And the way he plays that was great he just gets you to enjoy every minute he's onscreen. We got to see different layers of him from anger ranging to absolute happiness. He was perfectly cast for this film I couldn't imagine anyone else play this character as great as Nate overall loved his performance.

Gina Prince-Bythewood : Gina is a fresh upcoming director who deserves to be listened to! What she brought to the table that was so intriguing and genius. Was her ability to show the backstage life of this pop star and really get a feel of what she goes through. Not just the glitz and fame but also the pressure and stress which was great it was something were not used to seeing. She told a fresh story worth telling with a great performances from her cast to the costumes. Everything just fell into place perfectly I loved how she made you feel like you were a person in the film walking with Noni and not feeling like it's big camera angles but that you are actually their. I thought that was quiet genius and different. Overall I can't wait to see more films from this great director loved her direction.

The Lighting : Insanely rich lighting tones resulting in incredible colours! The film is set in modern day and the way they incorporated all these different colours got the frame to pop out and just had this very rich choice. It's not like most films it tried different things which worked perfectly I loved the lighting in this film one word outstanding loved it great job guys.

Cinematography : Just all around brilliant! The angles in this film got you so involved in the story it felt like you were their walking with her like she's talking to you I loved how the camera got so involved and played a important role in the story. Great job guys loved it.

The Soundtrack : Best soundtrack I've heard in a long time! The music and song selection they chose for the film couldn't of fit the film better. From "Blackbird" to so many others it helped express the moments of the film and just gets you dancing in your seat. Defiantly worth downloading on iTunes.
