Movie Review : Into The Woods

Into The Woods
This film was absolutely spectacular! From the stunning costumes to the gorgeous enormous sets to the entertaining performances this film is one of the most entertaining fantasy fairy tale films I have seen in a long time.

The story surrounds around all of our favourite classic fairy tale characters  a baker and his wife, little red riding hood, jack and the beanstalk rapunzel and Cinderella  all this loving characters collide into one situation.

Rated PG : thematic elements, fantasy action and peril

Emily Blunt : Emily delivers a entertaining performance once again! I have seen Emily in a variety of different films I have seen her play comedy, action and dramas so when I heard she was playing in a musical I didn't know if she could pull it off. Wow she was outstanding in this film so much so earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. What was so rich and fun about her performance is out of the entire cast she was the one who was the most serious out of them all so she was dramatic and also she would be able to turn a painful hurtful scene into song and that's how she would express her emotions. She was entertaining I wouldn't call this her best performance I've seen but it would be one of the most entertaining characters I have seen her play for sure. Overall great performance from Blunt once again.

James Corden : James is incredible! Before seeing this film I have heard nothing about the actor after seeing him in this film I will defiantly check out his future work. He was brilliant as the baker being serious like Blunt's character. He was able to be funny and dramatic at the time. The connection he shares with Blunt onstage was amazing you actually thought they were husband and wife it was that realistic and real. Overall good performance.

Meryl Streep : Streep once again delivers a groundbreaking performance! Streep is the best actress to ever live I think it's fair to say. She's played in every single kind of film comedy's, romance films dramas, action films and oh did I tell you she could sing? She played in a musical before Mamma Mia in 08 so it's no surprise she's at it again with her amazing voice. Only this time she's a witch it's the first time we have seen her take on a dark and creepy role like this. She just disappeared in the role with the way she looked and delivered her dialogue. You can obviously see it's Streep when you watch her in this film but the way she plays this villainous character is just so chilling. Overall another great performance by Streep once again.

Anna Kendrick : Anna is one of the best young actress in the business today! Anna's proven to us she can do dramas (Up In The Air) comedy's (Pitch Perfect) and now Musicals! It isn't a surprise she has a good voice because she did do Pitch a Perfect in 2012 and we couldn't get enough of her incredible voice of the "cup song" she sang. So in this film what she brought a authenticity to the role with her great emotional range mixing it with music got you do you couldn't take your eyes off her. She would play a scene where she's lost all hope and starts singing those lyrics some of the songs are deep and very meaningful so when she sang them it felt like she meant it that it was coming from the heart which makes for a more entertaining and convincing performance overall loved it.

Lila Crawford : Lila gave an amazing performance! Before seeing her in this film I haven't even heard about her. After seeing her in this film I will check out everything else she's in for the rest of her acting career. What makes her stand out from the rest of this well put together cast is she became the character. She plays Red Ridding Hood and when we first see her we think oh she's cute and sweet just like the fairy tale tells. Well once we see her more she's a bit creepy  Lila brought this chilling vibe to the character that was wicked and entertaining. She also has an amazing singing voice so when you put her singing with her acting onscreen she's a force to be reckoned with. I have seen some actors portray Red Riding Hood over the years *cough cough* Amanda Seyfried and none of them have brought a realistic point or just entertaining in general the way Lila portrays Red. She did a fantastic job loved her performance Golden Globe worthy.

Johnny Depp : Johnny is badder then ever as the wolf! Johnny has played in Musicals before such as Sweeney Todd, Cry Baby So it's no surprise he's done it once again. This time he plays the iconic wolf from the fairy tale Red Riding Hood and in one word just plain creepy. Johnny's been good at channelling his more dark and creepy side in films like Sweeney Todd and Secret Window. When you see him onscreen you can t believe your eyes it's Johnny Depp because he doesn't look anything like himself. The costume he wears is stylish and helped us forget we were watching Johnny and we were just watching the wolf. The way he delivered his lines as this character was creepy and chilling he gave the best portrayal as the wolf better then any actor who's played this character before. Overall loved his performance another great performance by Depp once again.

Rob Marshall:  A modern day genius! Rob has done a magnificent musical before the Oscar winning picture Chicago. So it was no surprise he was going to amaze us once again with his outstanding direction. He's redeemed himself once again showing outstanding set pieces and beautiful costume designs by legendary designer Colleen Atwood. Everything just came together perfectly the way he was able to get the tone of the film right not making it to childish but not losing that magical aspect by going to dark. Overall great direction  by Rob once again.

The Lighting : loving the colours in this amazing film! The tone of this film is dark so it goes for that but not to dark that it's creepy. It also is bright so it brings this rich aspect to the picture. It feels magical that anything was possible I loved it. Great job guys.

The Cinematography : Some worth mentioning shots! When Red is prancing through the Woods it feels your with her beside her feeling those emotions it was great at making you feel you were part of the story loved it great job guys.

Costume Design : Colleen Atwood is a living legend! The costumes she has made over the years she has created some of the most gorgeous and stunning designs in cinematography history. Such as Sweeney Todd, Alice In Wonderland, A Series Of Unfortunate Events and many more. In this film she stuns our eyes with the down to the toe detail of every dress and outfit. Like Red Riding Hood's outfit was so gorgeously made it felt like it was when I imagined her when I read the story. Colleen helped put another layer on the film for it to be more authentic and fit the story with her designs.  She got snubbed at the Oscars for not winning she deserved it. Overall loved it her deigns.

The Soundtrack : The songs in this film is absolutely marvellous! The way the lyrics move you to tears and just get you to tap your feet is a sign of great music. The songs in the film are so rich you want to listen to them over and over again. The lyrics got you to feel emotion it expressed the scene and how the characters felt in that moment. This soundtrack is definitely worth downloading on iTunes Loved it.
