Movie Review : Scarface

Scarface
This film is a masterpiece! This is my favourite film of all time. From the powerhouse performance by Al Pacino to the great direction by  DePalma. This film has great characters a intriguing story what's more do you want in a movie?

1980 a Cuban immigrant gets into the drug Business and with great power theirs always a downfall.

Rated R : Strong language gory violence graphic drug use & some nudity

Al Pacino : Al gives one of the best performances of his career! He puts his sweat blood and tears into this very interesting character. The way he walked and spoke his great he got underneath the skin of the character he eat slept & breathed this role to the dialogue it was all their. The way he spoke with the Cuban accent was so well done. Their was a electricity in the room when he was onscreen their was a presence he brought to the screen that made you not want to take your eyes off the screen. The emotional drive he had was he wants to succeed and be the top dog but at the same time he cares about his family and wants them to be happy. At the same time he's a very tough person so you get to see different layers of Pacino. You got to see him be angry, sad so many others so it was great to see so many layers of emotions from his character. The chemistry  he has onscreen with Steven Bauer it the chemistry felt so real they convinced you they were friends and partners they were great onscreen together. Overall Pacino deserved the Oscar for this performance. Another great performance from Pacino once again.

Steven Bauer : He gave one of the most entertaining supporting performances I have seen in a long time. When he was onscreen he stole the screen with his well written dialogue and great emotional drive. He wasn't tough as Tony but still tough with Steven's character you got to see more empathy from his character which was great cause most of the film is serious and has this serious driven character so to see a character showing sadness is nice to see because then you get to see the difference qualities between these two characters. When he was onscreen with   Al I thought they were like blood brothers&partners the way they acted onscreen felt so real it. I thought Steven was great at playing the straight man on second then being empathetic so it was great to see how he could switch those emotions on and off easily. I thought Steven got snubbed big time at the Oscars for best supporting actor even if he didn't win it would of been nice to see the recognition. Overall loved the performance.

Michelle Pfeiffer : She gave a outstanding performance!
Michelle is not in this film as much as Al&Steven but when she's onscreen she makes the most of her scenes she captivates you with her sharp dialogue and great emotional range. She mad you feel bad for the way he gets treated and not any actor can get the audience invested in it's characters you need real acting chops to do that. When she was delivering her lines it didn't feel like she was acting it it felt like she put a part of herself in this role and brought her real emotions into it which makes for a phenomenal and more convincing performance.  Michelle delivered another outstanding performance definitely golden globe worthy Loved it.

Brian De Palma : Brian is a genius! I have seen some previous work of Brian's before like Mission : Impossible & The Untouchables so walking into this film It was no surprise he was going to blow me away once again. But he raises the bar on his direction and how he tells excellent storytelling he got outstanding powerhouse performances out of all of his actors, he had a beautiful score the Greer locations where the film was shot at all of it fell into place perfectly. He did a outstanding job at getting you wrapped up in every  moment of this film and getting you invested in these wonderful characters. It was great at one scene it will be toe people talking then in the same scene the scene would take a turn  for something you never expected. So he was great at surprising you and entertaining you from the start of the film to the end. He definitely deserved the Oscar nomination for best director for his work on this film. Overall a cinematic achievement for DePalma.

The Lighting : It was very modern looking. Since it's a crime/ Gangster film the film had this  kind of gritty feel to the picture. Which was great it was excellent at setting the tone for the film. Great job guys.

The Cinematography : Some shots worth mentioning. Theirs a action sequence at the end of the film which I thought was very well shot and got you to feel like you were their in the moment experiencing it which I loved. Great job guys.

The Score : The music composed for this film was outstanding. It was so beautiful it was great at knowing how the characters felt in that moment and expressing it through the score deserved the Oscar nomination for best original score.  definitely worth downloading on iTunes.
