Movie Review : The Big Short

The Big Short
This film was shocking and a important film to watch about the housing crisis in the early 2000's. Provided with great performances across the board from Steve Carell and  Christian Bale. Along with Adam McKay's career turning genius directing. This film is a terrific film that deserves to be watched.

This film is about the housing crisis in the 2000's and how s group of people try to get everyone to take notice so it wouldn't be a disaster but you can't save everyone.

Rated R : strong language and brief nudity

Christian Bale : His performance as Michael Burry was truly outstanding! His portrayal of a person with Asperger's syndrome and he shows it perfectly onscreen. He would stutter and constantly be laughing he accurately portrayed a person with it along with giving a great performance. He is so transformative in this film the way he walked and spoked he fully inhabited the character and breathed it to life. You believe he is that character and it's not Bale onscreen that's how genuine and real he is in this film. He isn't in the film as much as the other cast members in the film but he dose a hell of a joy for only being in the film for a few scenes. He steals the scene with his flawless performance in this film he defiantly deserves Oscar recognition for his great work in this film overall one of the best performances of his career.

Steve Carell : Steve gives another Oscar caliber performance once again! Last year he proved to us he has extraordinary dramatic chops in Foxcatcher. He dose it once again with his great work in this film. He plays a sarcastic businessman in this film and plays it incredibly well their is not one moment where your not captivated by his performance. The way he looked in the film from his haircut to the weight he put  on for the film brought a layer of realism to his performance for his commitment to fully commit himself to this film even physically to show you he's giving his all to this role. The emotional aspect he brings is fantastic he'll go from being a sarcastic verbally mean person to bringing a tear to his eye and breaking your heart and he did a great job transitioning through those emotions making it look so easy and convincing. Overall Steve delivers one of the finest performances of his career a scene stealing performance that deserves to be recognized.

Adam McKay : Adam gives career turning best direction! Adam is best known for his comedic mark in films like The Other Guys and Step Brothers. So to see him switch from comedy to drama made me nervous because he's never done the dramatic genre before and he did a outstanding job. His ability to deal with such a Heavy subject about the housing crisis he did a remarkable job executing this film for his first dramatic film. In this film he really got you invested in the plot line and got you to care about the characters while telling you shocking facts about the housing crisis. I really think he deserves Oscar recognition for his outstanding direction on this picture. He should do more dramatic films because seeing From this film it seems like it is a strong suit for him overall one of the best directed pictures I've seen in a longtime.

The Editing : This films editing is the best editing i have ever seen captured on film! It takes place from 2005 to 2008. And what they did that I really like is they used old ads songs and movie clips to show what went on in that year and it really got my attention and pulled me into the film. It deserves the Oscar for its work hands down genius work guys.

The Lighting : The tones in this film matched the time period of the film making you feel like you were back in 05. I liked the colours really made the frames pop out overall great lighting guys.

Cinematography : nothing worth mentioning

The Soundtrack : The score was extraordinary it had the right instruments and created the perfect melody and sound for the film that expressed the scene perfectly Overall terrific score.
