Movie Review : Carol

Carol
This film is not only a terrific film it's mesmerizing a true beauty to the work of cinema! The performances provided by Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara that are award worthy at its best. This film is also gorgeous for their attention to detail for the set design. The film is absolutely astonishing a real pice of film.

This film takes place in New York in the 1950's when a girl in her young 20's who works as a store clerk meets this woman one day their encounter sparked a instant connection

Rated R : nudity, language

Cate Blanchett : Cate delivers a remarkable performance she is absolutely captivating in this film. Her last film she did Blue Jasmine was outstanding and here she is again with Carol she just gives great performance after great performance. Their is a reason she's already won two Oscars  because she's a truly gifted actor who dominates the screen with her acting which she shows in this film. In this film she plays a woman who is a lesbian back in the 1950's and back then it was extremely frowned upon to be open with your sexuality like that and the sheer emotion she brings to the screen from trying to hide it from her husband is heartbreaking. When she is onscreen in this film she fully commits herself to the character that you believe she means what she says that's how good her acting is in this film that it feels real you feel like it's not being acted that's truly amazing. The way she also tapped into her emotional range was extraordinary their will be one moment where she's talking to her daughter she's using the happiest tone and is just so joyous. The next she'll be absolutely broken and tearing up its brilliant not one false note in her performance. She could possibly earn her third Oscar for her performance in this film and she deserves it but Mara might win it or possibly a tie because the performances are so great it's hard to determine which was better i would love to see them both get awarded they deserve all the award recognition they get for this film because Cate and Mara are truly magnificent in the film. Overall a heartbreaking performance acted to perfection from Cate once again.

Rooney Mara : Rooney gives her best performance since The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or even better! In the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Mara proved to us she's a force to be reckoned with when she's in a dramatic role and she dominated the film with that performance to delivered. In this film she plays a store clerk in her 20's and the life and sheer emotion she brings onscreen is phenomenal. She falls in love with Carol in the film and the suffering you see from her trying to hide it from everyone was so heartbreaking I know I keep using that word but theirs really no other word to describe it. She would be smiling and laughing one moment the next she's just quiet bawling her eyes out just letting her emotion take over the scene her emotional range is outstanding. She was so genuine and real onscreen when she spoke you felt like she meant it she may even win the Oscar for her performance in this film because she's astonishing as well. Her ability to create such a convincing and real dramatic performance like she shows in this film proves that she is a gifted actress who can deliver Oscar caliber performances. Overall Mara delivers one of the finest female performances I've ever seen.

Todd Haynes : Todd is a gifted visionary! Todd created a strong dramatic film filled with great performances from his cast across the board. Then pulling the audience in with this heartbreaking plot line layered in perfect set design feeling your in that time period. Everything from the tone of colour  that was on the wall everything you felt like you were back in the 1950's it was so authentic. Bringing a style to the film that didn't feel copied his direction on this film makes you feel heartbreak and at times joy not many directors can get you so wrapped up in the film  that you shed a tear only a gifted director has the ability to do that overall direction at its best.

The Lighting : the tones used in this film felt rich and had this creamy feel to the picture that fit the emotional aspect of the film. They used different tones and created a perfect blend of colours and came out with the greatest lighting for the film to truly captivate the audience overall great job guys.

The Cinematography : nothing worth mentioning

The Score : So beautiful to the ears! The music in this film captivated the emotion and heartbreak of the film using the right instruments to capture the feel of the film. It would at times just drive the scene and bring great music to your ears. Overall outstanding score that deserves to be recognized.
