Movie Review : Bodies Bodies Bodies
Bodies Bodies Bodies
This is a fun razor sharp comedy horror that will make you laugh and scared all at once while enjoying the fun performances from this entire cast. This film is not going to be for everyone as their will be many comparisons to murder whodunit films like Scream, Knives Out and even Clue. As yes this film is very much in that style but it is going in a totally different direction in terms of what it’s trying to say. Now whenever I see A24 put out a film I bolt to the theatre to check it out as they are honestly the best film studio working today putting out such amazing content but fresh new filmmakers. And Bodies Bodies Bodies was so much fun to watch.
Firstly, The themes and styles this film is going for is Bold. As I mentioned previously it is a murder mystery essentially and their will be drawn comparisons to other films that have come before it but what it’s message at the core of it that to me made it fun, Intriguing and hilarious at times was it’s ability to poke fun at Gen Z teenagers and young adults. As it takes big aim at how the culture shift in the last few years has occurred and the way teenagers speak to one another in this hyperbolic way of speaking can be seen as at times laughable and comedic and to me it was quite interesting to see. Now it is not to preachy but it’s not subtle either and that approach of making Gen Z culture in a sense a joke someone like me can appreciate the humour in it but I definitely can see people who will feel divided on enjoying the film as some won’t find it’s approach to it funny at all. And the way that the humour is done for me worked so well and I hadn’t seen a film take such a on the nose commentary on it and I found it quite refreshing to see someone have the spine to tackle it as many wouldn’t touch making fun of Gen Z culture with a 10 foot pole so. And it also blends very well with the horror elements as this isn’t a straight up horror I would say it’s more of a murder mystery on the verge of slasher. As it all revolves around this game their playing inside while waiting for a storm to pass and then bodies start dropping and they have to guess who’s doing the killing. Now it makes for a lot of fun conflict as we are Introduced to all the characters quite quickly into the film and it’s only when the party starts and stuff starts going south where we really start to learn everyone’s true self and their honest personalities shine through. It kept you constantly on edge not knowing if you can fully trust any of these characters and I liked that element because it kept the film fun until the credits rolled. So the way the horror and comedy cross over was incredibly well structured and executed and neither tones overpowered the other it was so smartly written and directed with its style.
Secondly, The performances in this film are so fun and energetic! You have the likes of Pete Davidson who plays this very uptight person that unlike the rest is more worried about his house getting damaged rather then hurting the ones around him. As he is very on edge a lot of the film and Pete Davidson explores areas of himself emotionally that are very engaging to watch as their is a moment in the film where he just rips apart someone verbally in this very emotionally tense scene that felt so raw and honest it’s such a great showcase of his talent in a performance I hope that doesn’t get overlooked of his just because it’s a smaller role. Then you have Lee Pace who delivers this comedically flat performance and that’s a compliment because the character himself is not larger then life he’s very dull in terms of brain power the character well at first glance and he presents himself in that nature. He has this build look about him and has this relaxed personality all the while keeping to himself and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen him do onscreen before. It was refreshing to see him present such a new emotional side we hadn’t seen him explore before in a fun and surprisingly brilliant performance. Then you have the fantastic breakout performance by Rachel Sennot who gives a fantastic performance that I couldn’t look away from she was beat by beat hilarious and dramatic rolled into one and is definitely the highlight when it comes to performances from this film. Everyone else did a great job it truly was a very well acted film by such great talent that delivered a mix of comedy dramatic and even both in this fantastic horror comedy.
Lastly, Bodies Bodies Bodies is a film that will divide people upon its viewing for its Social commentary but if you can enjoy it without getting your feelings hurt you’ll see it’s a smart satire comedy horror. That has truly fantastic performances and a great story that will have you guessing to the end of who the killer is the twist and turns in this film are so well structured and this is a film I had a great time watching and can’t wait to check out again. Bodies Bodies Bodies is a film I recommend everyone go check out.
This film centres around a group of friends who play a game called Bodies Bodies Bodies while waiting out a storm and once they realize the bodies start dropping for real they have to follow the game through while making it out alive to see who the killer is before they end up dead.

Rachel Sennott : Rachel Sennott delivers a knockout performance in this film! Now this actress I had not heard of prior to this film. Now she steals the film for me in terms of performance and I’ll tell you why. The moment she comes onscreen she demands her presence to be known with a iron first and she delivers comedic timing so naturally and it flowed amazingly well. As she is this fish out of water essentially where she’s reacting to everything going around her with such a honest and raw response and it results in humorous moments for sure but their is a great sincerity in her voice when she shows that painful scared sound in her delivery of her lines. She explodes onscreen with such amazing emotional depth that will impress you with all the layers she sheds back of her character. Now she is just trying to survive the night and be able to keep herself intact emotionally and she pours her heart out and you can see it. As she uses her humour as a way to help ease the tense situation as it is a pretty terrifying situation she’s in and Rachel delivers this well balanced performance of a character that goes between dark humour to raw emotional honesty and it’s combined so well and results in the best performance of the film. My concern is this performance will be overlooked because most people will see this cast as an ensemble and no specific standout where to me she really makes a big impact in term of performance and she definitely gives a performance worth talking about. For an actress who’s done very little acting on the big screen she impressed the hell out of me with her ability to pay attention to when to deliver a line either if it is comedic or dramatic and when to go big or when to pull back she did such an incredible job and I cannot wait to see what she does next. Her work in Bodies Bodies Bodies is hilariously emotional and a damn fun fun that chews up all the scenery.
Halina Reijn : This director did a hell of a job here! I had never heard of this filmmaker previously to seeing this Film as she had only done one film before this. Now after seeing what she brought to this amazing story that is Bodies Bodies Bodies I will be keeping a eye out for her future projects. She didn’t just make this a copy and paste of murder whodunit films that came before it like Clue, Knives Out or even Murder On the Orient Express in some ways. She takes the horror and comedy style and then cranks it up to 400 with the social commentary now she was very smart in how she went about it as it didn’t come across preachy but was well constructed in a way where you notice it’s their and can pick up on what she’s trying to get you to take away from the film. While adding great elements of genuine scares and thrills with truly a fantastic cast all giving great performances. She makes the audience constantly on edge by not knowing who to invest in as they don’t know whoever their liking in terms of the character is the killer or not so it kept it fun and engaging to have the audience guessing to the very end. She did a great job at bringing a fresh style to a very already crowded genre with her work here and having strokes of social themes that are very relevant and incredibly raw in terms of the way she goes about it. She did a Truly great job with this film and I cannot wait to see what she does next.
