Movie Review : Borat Subsequent MovieFilm
Borat : Subsequent MovieFilm
This is a hilarious, edgy yet fully whole hearted fun time that everyone has to have! Sacha Baron Coen delivers a truly genius comedic performance as the iconic Borat. The film is non stop hilarious and in a way that is smart in how it delivers its comedy. The film never had me not laughing at any point of the film it was constantly diving into these shocking, edgy and downright jaw dropping situations you can’t look away from. The film is a great followup to the massively successful first film. As it yes brings. The laughs we come to expect from Borat oncer again but this time their is an added amount of heart that I didn’t expect that felt really emotionally sincere. I never thought I would ever use the words emotionally sincere in a Borat film review but here we are. If their was any year we needed a Borat sequel more then ever 2020 would be it as what makes Borat so great is his ability to poke fun at the social racial and political systems is amazing as as society we take so many things seriously and this sequel not only delivers on that front but reminds people its okay to laugh at crass and sometimes edgy humour. This film takes shots at the trump presidency as well as the coronavirus and so much more in a way that will have you in stitches from laughing so hard.
Firstly, This was no small time hit of a character it was a smash hit back in 2006. For Sacha Baron Coen to have gone almost fifteen years before he reprised the now beloved character is crazy. As you would think since the first film was one of the biggest hits critically and commercially of 2006 that it would have had a sequel right after but that isn’t the case. The film picks up directly where the first one ended which I love and the film works in the impact that the character had on society and the political and entertainment industry as by now Borat is a household name that everyone knows. So to bring the impact he has made since the first film came out I think was such a smart move because we see how the world also has evolved and changed since we last saw him. As we the audience and the world around him has changed but he has not. The plot this time is not just seeing Borat getting into hilarious antics but we see his world expand more when his daughter comes along for the ride. So it turns into this daughter father story that is used for the most part for jaw dropping comedy throughout the film. That being said it also surprisingly packs a lot of heart by showing the disconnect Borat has with her daughter since he never saw her grow up and it actually tugged on my heart strings quite a bit. The film pushes the comedy to one hundred and ten percent but it also is not afraid to tone it down and have more intimate moments as well. It has this great balance of the sheer side splitting humour you expect but also with a decent amount of heart and both tones balance one other out beautifully.
Secondly, The performance by Sacha Baron Coen is truly magnificent! We see Sacha Baron Coen tap into Borat for a second time almost fifteen years. We see an aged and more experienced Borat but he still has that childlike ability from those many years ago he has never lost that. Sacha doubles down on what we saw last time and here he brings a more deeper look into how Borat thinks and feels and its amazing to watch. He brings this parental side to him we had not seen before and its funny of course but also very heartwarming as you can see him being protective of his daughter it results in humorous situations of course but you can see his heart is in the right place. Adding to the depth he explores we had not seen before he still packs the fun humour we have come to love from him. As he is so socially and politically deaf which makes for such fun because he speaks his mind and Sacha brings his genius comedic timing to the role once again. It never felt exhausting to see him deliver jokes a mile a minute as he thinks them out so greatly they never get tiring. He brings an aged and even emotional Borat this time around but delivers an evrey level. Then you also have a great debut performance by Maria Bakalova who brings her first ever onscreen performance with sheer brilliance. She might even have more edgy humorous moments in this film then Borat himself which is no easy feat to do. But she brings this brilliant comedic performance that will have you smiling and laughing all the way through as well as a great deal of emotional depth. Its a brilliant debut performance from her you will not be able to look away from. Everyone else gives amazing performances but its the performances by Sacha and Maria that will have you gripped to the screen until the end.
Lastly, Borat : Subsequent Film delivers on every level you could want it brings the laughs we would want from a Borat sequel. Sacha Baron Coen brings another comedic genius performance that will have you having fun until the very end. While the humour delivers he also adds great elements of heart and emotion that will actually hit you in surprising ways. Borat 2 is a film the worlds right now and to have people laugh as the world is hard as it is for Borat to show us in this complicated world that it is ok to laugh is what we need. It is a great follow up to the cult favourite that will become a beloved classic itself in years from now Borat : Subsequent film is hilarious and heartwarming I recommended everyone go see this film as Borat would say its very nice.
This film centres around Borat 14 years later and is sent to the united States to sell his daughter to rich man in order to not get exacted by his people
Rated R : Graphic Nudity|Strong Crude & Sexual Content|Language
Sacha Baron Coen : Sacha delivers another outstanding turn as the loveable Borat! Coen brings this iconic character back to the screen with an aged and layered take on Borat this time around. He shows a new side to him we have not seen before as Borat this time around has learned from his first trip to America and has more experience on the world regardless of that fact he still has that fun curiosity we love about him. Sacha is able to slip back into the skin of Borat so easily he brings the comedy that we come to expect from Borat. As he is socially and politically deaf in any interactions he has with people which results in such fun. As Sacha doubles down on what hw brought to the character from last time as here he pushes his comedic abilities of what he can do even further. He holds no prisoners he soaks himself head to toe in this character fully embracing him once again and you will be smiling and laughing all the way through due to Sacha’s brilliant comedic timing and genius ability of knowing when to push for a joke and when to hold back. As great as thew comedy is which he delivers in spades he is able to show more than just the surface of Borat we see more into his heart this time around as his daughter tags along and for the most part it is done for comedic purposes. That being said as the film progresses we see Sacha bring elements of emotional depth which Borat has never done and it could of been really forced but from how Sacha approached it I never felt it was forced it came so naturally to the character and his arc. He has this love for his daughter in his eyes and we see how much he loves her in his ability to keep her safe and trying to shelter her from the world as the film progresses we see how selfish that is for him to do by sheltering her. So their is a genuine emotional heartbeat he goes through where he realizes he has to let go of being in control and you can see the genuine emotion expressed by Sacha as it isn’t jokey or cheesy but truly sincere in the way he delivers the more emotional moments of the story. He brings this perfect blend of humour and heart and they both mix greatly together to show a hilarious performance by Sacha once again but at the same time not giving us the exact same performance again rather he shows a more in depth look to his heart this time around and he really broadens Borat’s range of emotions which I absolutely loved. Sacha Baron Coen gives a hilarious performance that is both side splitting and emotionally Honest.
Jason Woliner : Jason brings a beloved icon to the screen in a worthy sequel that delivers! Jason Woliner is a filmmaker I am unfamiliar with but after seeing what he did with the Borat name I will definitely keep an eye out for him. He brings this documentary like style of filmmaking that the first film did so greatly and expanding it. As he brings the audience into even more crazier antics compared to the first film but the film itself is not just driven by its sheer shock comedy factor. He brings an amount of heart and emotion that Borat has never explored before and that could of gone either one of two ways either way to cheesy or genuine and it did the second one. As he shows the comedy for what we come to expect from the character but he also shows the more human element of Borat this time around. Instead of making him the only one experiencing the world around him he brings a daughter into the frame which instantly made it a father daughter dynamic film now. And that quality brought to the screen made it even stronger as it also gave Borat Banter to bounce off of and it gave us a new character to fall in love with. You can see the love and passion he has for the character as it shines through the frame as it has such a great narrative brought to the screen with great heart and humour added to the terrific performances he got from his two lead actors he brings a truly well rounded sequel to a beloved film that really does shine. Jason Woliner brings the comedic elements of what makes Borat so lovable but he also shows the heart inside the person as well which made it even more layered in rich depth. Jason did a great job at brining this sequel to the screen.
