Movie Man Darian Watching All Night Long

Enola Holmes 

This film is such a fun time the whole family will love! Enola Holmes is not only a great family film but it’s a solid flick Millie Bobby Brown delivers a charismatic leading performance that is full of grit and such charm that you can’t look away from. It brings great new life into the Sherlock Holmes franchise as it brings this whole new spin onto it while keeping the fun mystery vibes of what made us fall in love with that character but this time it’s his sister and it’s such fun. It’s able to a balance the tones of some hard hitting emotional moments and pure adventurous fun all at the same time resulting in a truly fun time to be had. 

Firstly, The films tone and approach to this story was so well executed! The way the film was able to use the over head narration without it ever getting annoying but use it as a way to help the audience clue into things they might of missed was greatly done. As theirs tons of films that use over head narration like Scorsese uses it quite a lot but he does it in a smart way every time. Other filmmakers either use it to much or to less and so this film was able to balance its use of it greatly as we see multiple times Millie Booby brown breaking the forth wall to address the audience and it got me more attached to her character as she would bring the audience into what she was constantly thinking all the time and her ability to raid fire think in stressful situations. On top of the greatly used voice the films ability to make the film like a fun old fashioned mystery was perfect as it could of just been a straight forward film of her finding her mom which is one of the main plot points but that’s not all it is. The film explores so much more with this boy she runs into her constantly having to overcome this obstacles to get to her mother but also discover new things about herself along the way. It’s ability to be able to explore such great depths of Enola and all the supporting characters and people around in her life. It’s able to bring nail biting adventure fun that’ll have you on the edge of your seat but also can take the time to focus in on the more intimate and emotional beats of the story and it’s characters. It’s the perfect blend of tones and none of them feel like their outweighing one or the other but are perfectly balanced. This film is narratively Strong in its telling of its story as well as its tone and use of voice over. 

Secondly, The performances given by the entire cast are so entertaining. The heart and soul of this great film is Millie Bobby Browns energetic leading performance that will have you thoroughly entertained by her fantastic layers she peels back of this very complex character. She at moments can be very witty and sarcastic and the next she can be shedding a tear without even having to burst into tears we can see her heart weep and then just shed a tear that will break you into a million pieces. Then you have great supporting turns by people such as Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin who plays the older brothers of Enola Holmes and they aren’t in the film as much as I thought they would be as yes the main heartbeat is their sister but they are both able to contribute fun performances that help shift the tone when it needs too. As both brothers are entirely different personality wise which makes for fantastic moments onscreen with great chemistry among the two. Everyone else involved all give terrific performances but it is the leading performance by Millie Bobby Brown that will steal your heart and have you so engaged into this fun tale from the moment it starts. 

Lastly, Enola Holmes is a film that is not only a great film from the Sherlock universe but its ability to bring such a breath of fresh air that brings elements of mystery, hints of romance and great amounts of heart. I had such a blast with this film as it was this sheer fun adventure with great amounts of heavy handed. Depth you wouldn’t expect. Millie Bobby Brown brings this fantastic character to life through an energetic performance you can’t look away and I am anxiously awaiting this film to turn into a trilogy as it clearly has great potential to be one. Enola Holmes is a mysterious adventurous fun time that will have you smiling all the way through and will have you wanting to rewatch it the moment its over. I recommend everyone go check this film out. 

This film revolves around the sister of famous detective Sherlock Holmes her name Enola Holmes and after her mother goes missing one day she has to put all the smarts her mother taught her to find her and on the way she discovers things about herself

Millie Bobby Brown : Millie Bobby Brown gives an energetic and surprisingly emotional! Millie has really come into her own in terms of an actor as her breakout role as Stranger Things that got her great critical acclaim and then she did Godzilla king  of monsters and now Enola Holmes. She has really been showing people what she can do in terms of range and here she only expands her range even more with her incredible turn as Enola. What I love about her approach to the character in this film is that she dose not play it as a one note character she explores such depth of the character over the course of the film really getting to see her show off her emotional range. As their are great moments of charm and wit with fantastically timed humour that lands greatly due to her brilliant timing. And then the next she can be incredibly vulnerable emotionally onscreen without uttering a single word. You can see her heartbreak wash over her face in such a emotionally gutting way that makes you feel for her as she is a person that won’t address her deep rooted feelings but if she is in a emotional headspace where she is hurt she does not have to say a word for us the audience to understand her frustration. She can shed one tear and have emotional sadness swell up in her eyes and its so well done as Enola is a character that plays everything very close to her chest. As the only person she really cares for is her mother and that’s about it besides her everyone else she encounters she wears this emotional guard over. But we learn over the course of the film that the emotional wall she hides behind she starts to bring down and in result it brings amazingly well done scenes of great emotion by Millie. As she brings this fun energetic energy that you can’t help but get swept up into but at the same time can bring some deep rooted emotional beats to the character and this weight that is brilliantly shown. You can see Millie really having fun onscreen and overall her performance in this film is emotionally gripping and energetically entertaining another truly great performance by Millie Bobby Brown. 

Harry Bradbeer : Harry has brought a truly fun story to the screen in such well executed way! Harry Bradbeer is widely known for his great work he is doing on the small screen and here brings a beloved book series to the big screen. After seeing what he did with Enola Holmes I will watch anything he does going forward as here he not only adapts the book greatly to the screen. But is able to bring a fantastic breath of fresh air to the Sherlock Holmes brand. He brings such a fun adventurous tone to the screen in this well structured way as its not just an adventure tale he brings such different elements and tones into the film. He explores the tone of self discovery and choosing your own path some truly emotionally driven tones that are greatly tackled in the film. He also can Bring a fantastic amount of deep rooted emotion that never feels sappy or forced but earned and then to top it all off he sprinkles it with romance but never goes for it but puts it their for the audience to notice but its never addressed. His direction is greatly done balancing out the tones without one ever outweighing the other. As well as getting solid performances from its cast and a truly great performance by Millie Bobby Brown. Overall Harry Bradbeer gives solid direction on this great adventurous fun tale.
