Movie Review : The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds
This film was a ton of fun! Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae both bring fun and charismatic performances to the screen. This film had me feeling mixed feelings as I enjoyed it but also had some issues with it but very minor ones if that. The film is a laugh at minute comedy and it could of gone one of two ways either it could of worked as a solid comedy with a enjoyable and fairly straightforward premise or it could fallen flat very easily due to the genre as comedy is not easy to tackle. But this film does end up on top with fantastic onscreen performances solid jokes that land and are well executed.

Firstly, The performances the films strength is Kumail Nanjiani who has been giving great performances one after the other and here once again delivers another knockout of a comedic performance that is so much fun to watch unfold onscreen. Issa Rae also has a great solid performance as well that balanced great aspects of comedy but also some great genuine moments of emotion that do work very well. The two leads of this film not only give strong performances but their onscreen chemistry is electric and you can’t take your eyes off of them as they seem to be having a blast in these roles and it just makes for such a enjoyable time and such fun performances to watch. The rest of the cast all give fantastic supporting performances as well but it’s Kumail and Issa the two leads that make this film so much fun to watch.

Secondly, This film drew a lot of similarities to a film I had seen many years ago called Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey the film does have some glaring comparisons to this film as both have a similar structure of the story but I will say that Lovebirds executes it’s Story in a more better way sorry date night. The films plot as  I mentioned may be familiar with it’s  tone  but it’s ability to also take the opportunity to use some really well fleshed our emotional scenes to let the audience breath from the comedic moments was very smart and also gave the audience a chance to see other sides of these characters rather then just a one dimensional set of characters that only show comedic traits. The plot mixes the perfect amount of comedy and sprinkles in hints of drama to balance it out and some action which results in a very well done comedy that stands out rather then just being another film that could easily of been forgotten.

Lastly, The Lovebirds is a enjoyable comedy with truly fun performances from its two leads and a very engaging story which will have you smiling all the way through. It’s not a film I would buy but it’s definitely a film I would revisit and rewatch for sure I recommend people go check this film out as I think it’s important to see a film to make us all laugh right now through these difficult times were in its well worth the watch.

This film revolves around a couple who’s relationship is on the rocks but after a shocking encounter with murder and a hit and run they must find a way to clear their names before getting in to deep into something they had no part in

Rated R : for sexual content, language throughout and some violence

Kumail Nanjiani : Kumail Delivers once again another terrific comedic performance! This man single handily was the best aspect of Men In Black International and was so much fun in Stuber and here he gives another great performance. In the film he plays the character very quippy and sarcastic but also with a surprising amount of depth that really showed different sides to the character I didn’t expect. Kumail has this way of delivering comedy or lines that are comedic in a very well thought out manner and it never feels lazy. As he knows when the appropriate time is to say a humorous quip or line of dialogue and it always lands his timing is perfect. Then as well as the comedy which works to his Benefit perfectly he mixes it up with great amounts of drama their are some scenes in this film where he discusses and delivers some very heavy pieces of dialogue and it seemed so genuine and so authentic he never gives a one dimensional performance he knows when to take a break from the comedy and show other aspects of his character. Kumail looks like he’s having such fun onscreen and their was not one minute I wasn’t having fun with his performance he gives  a side splitting hilarious performance with great amounts of heart as well that tug at your heart strings. Overall Kumail delivers once again another fantastic performance.

Micheal Showalter : Micheal gave one of the best directed films of 2017 with the Big Sick which I love and couldn’t wait to see what he did next. And once again teams up with Kumail Nanjiani for a fun time this time he cranks then humour up and the drama down but it’s still their. What I liked about his approach to the story was it’s looked at from a very serious angle but it’s never taken to seriously which I love but at the same time he never got lazy and relied to much on the comedy to be the driving force of the film. He was aware and did a great job at balancing the comedy with dramatic elements and both tones never outweighed the other it was a even balance. Even though we may have seen this type of story told he brings this freshness to it that makes it engaging to watch and really enjoy every frame of this film. As he gets fantastic performances out of his lead actors and just delivers a fun comedy for people to enjoy through this difficult time. Comedy’s aren’t easy to make a comedy you can make sure but a good comedy is damn near impossible and to pull off a successful comedy takes a lot of work and i can say with confidence that he delivers with the laughs and the great amount of heart. Micheal takes on this comedy head on and results in such a fun time leaving me with the biggest smile on my face overall great direction from Micheal Showalter.
