Movie Review : Bad Boys For Life

Bad Boys For Life
This film is a freaking blast! Bad Boys For Life breathes new life into
this franchise with a surprising amount of heavy emotion. that is well balanced out with the fantastic comedy and banter between Smith and Lawrence. And the action explodes on the screen in engaging intensity that you can’t take your eyes off of. Bad Boys for life is an abs allure adrenaline pumping thrill ride you’ll want to rewatch right after it’s done.

Firstly, This film brings the trilogy into new territory as 16 years ago was Bad Boys 2 when we last saw the guys and I love how the film shows that they know their older and the film goes into some very emotionally deep places with its characters we hadn’t seen before. As Will Smith in particular gives a hilarious performance as always but theirs a darkness and deep emotional vulnerability he brings to the screen this time around that really is something different that he hasn’t explored within the character before.

As well Martin Lawrence brings a hilarious and wise performance of emotional depth both of the actors show sides to their characters I never thought they would show as they are able to bring hilarious banter and comedy to the screen as the iconic onscreen duo they are but they also can show the smaller more emotional moments that really speak volumes and how they walk the fine line between the comedy and serious emotional punch was so well mixed together. I would go as far as saying that Will and Martin give their best portrayal of the character in this film from the entire franchise as they build upon what we already know of them and blow us away with the new places they explore. The supporting characters  involved also give great performances that heighten the film with great charismatic performances of sheer fun.

Secondly, This film did not feel like a cash grab the story is very solid and I think the plot-line in this film is actually superior from the last two films for the reason the emotional hook they use with the villain to set up the film was so brilliantly done. As the other two films sure they have a great story with explosive fun as that’s what I love about the franchise but the villains weren’t particularly memorable. Here the film brings an antagonist that brings a complex connection to its main characters that make you more interested not just into the story but also into the antagonist and his motives. This film just excels on every single level possible it moves the narrative forward with a solid story with great action, humour and emotional depth that keeps you engaged all the way through and brings the series to new heights while keeping the fun style we know and love.

Lastly, Bad Boys for life is a film that brought such new life into the series that was needed and Will Smith and Martin Lawrence deliver top notch performances that bring their characters to new heights while still delivering explosive action with great moments of emotion. It’s funny it’s emotionally captivating and it’s a great time to be had I had an absolute blast watching Bad Boys For Life this is a film I definitely recommend people go check out.

This film centres around Mike and Marcus many years since we last saw them and their their coming to terms with their age and if it’s worth going on the hunt like their younger days. But when a shocking turn of events forces them to go into the fire one last time.

Rated R : for strong bloody violence, language throughout, sexual references and brief drug use

Will Smith : Smith delivers his best outing of Mike Lowery! Smith has been everywhere nowadays with last year giving us a ton of films from The Aladdin remake you Gemini Man and now the long awaited Bad Boys 3. Will has always been my favourite character in The franchise and here he brings the character to places I never thought was possible. As we know Mike as a very sarcastic woman’s man who loves to have fun that’s always been the way he has approached the character. Sure he’s shown bits and pieces of serious moments but brief here he wears  his heart on his sleeve and shows a whole other layer of the character that really threw me for a three sixty. Smith’s character has a event that changes him completely in this film and after what happens turns him almost into a whole other person in terms to what we saw him as before. What I mean by that is he goes through a massive character arc that changes his character because of this event that he goes through. He contemplates over very serious things such as revenge and not knowing when to quit the fight when he should as Smith brings this  emotional intensity that gripped me as theirs this total blackness in his eyes after what happens to him and he has some very deep scenes between him and Lawrence that was amazing as when he speaks about getting even you can see the pain he’s in emotionally but as well as how he is so torn apart emotionally from the inside and Will brings that so brilliantly to the screen in such raw emotion.  Then on the other side he can switch it up within seconds and bring that stylistic sarcastic wit we know and love from him and make the comedy land every moment as his timing is perfect when he says anything witty or funny. Will really explores such complex and different layers of the character though the film and goes through a massive character arc while still delivering a entertaining performance of hilarious fun and serious emotion he walks that perfect balance brilliantly. Overall Will Smith delivers his best outing of this character and an all around terrific performance.

Adil El Arbi - Bilall Fallah : These two filmmakers gave a outstanding first directed film here! When I heard that these two guys were going to take on a massive beloved franchise like Bad Boys and on top of the fact they have never directed anything ever I was a bit worried. After seeing what they did here wow I’m so glad they directed the film as they bring the franchise into new territory while keeping the fun style we come to love from these films. Right off the bat they bring this solid story to the surface about retirement and knowing when to stop the fight and to contemplate when is it enough? And that’s deep for a Bad Boys film but I love that though. Sure we haven’t seen that in the last two but it’s the breath of fresh air the films needed and it’s able to transition into this day and age without losing the edgy fun and it goes full throttle with its action showing the explosive fun of it all while showing the beautiful friendship these two have. It goes to some very deep places and it was well done and to be quite honest I thought it was perfectly fine as using this emotional depth we hadn’t had before was exactly what was needed because then it shows how high the stakes are this time. As well it shows how these characters have changed over time and it is able to walk the fine line between hard hitting drama and hilarious comedy in a great way the two tones never outweigh one another and being this perfect balance of both tones that work greatly off one another. These two filmmakers did a terrific job at bringing the series to a new level while keeping the fun we expect from these films i can’t wait to see what they do next as they did a truly solid job with this Bad Boys film.
