Movie Review : A Simple Favour

A Simple Favour
This film is a old fashioned Hitchcock like thriller and I loved it! This film felt like a callback to the old fashioned murder mystery films that were made in the 50’s and 60’s and I loved that aspect of it. It throws you for such sharp twists you don’t see coming and it keeps you intrigued and then gives it a huge revel at the end and it’s one of the most amazingly well pieced mystery films I’ve seen since Gone Girl.

First off, this film rests on the shoulders of the lead actors at the centre of it. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively who are both dominating in their performances as well as capture amazing chemistry onscreen that just worked so well. Both leads give layered and captivating work here that you can’t turn away from their both tremendous. As well the direction by Paul was great as he’s never done a thriller before but mostly comedies. So hearing that he was going to do a stylish old fashioned murder mystery I was intrigued and he really shows people that he can do any genre and tackle it marvellously as he shows very strong work here in his directing giving a totally different style then what were used to.

Lastly, this film was so much damn fun to watch because it didn’t copy other films or try to be something it wasn’t. Sure it feels a bit like gone girl but you can point out similarities of other films in anything really. This film was very tightly and smartly written with very sharp dialogue that kept you invested to the end. It just was so nice to see an old fashioned murder mystery film as those aren’t done really in films much nowadays and it was great to see it tackle it with a well rounded story and a fantastic cast who all give great work A Simple Favour is a film I recommend if you like Murder Mystery films this film will satisfy as it did for me definitely check it out.

This film centres around a mother who is a mommy vlogger and one day becomes friends with a mother and dose her a favour one day and looks after her kid but the next day she is missing? What happened what unravels is shocking and takes her places she doesn’t expect

Rated R : sexual content and language throughout, some graphic nude images, drug use

Anna Kendrick : Anna gives one of her best  performances of her career! Anna has proven she can tackle dramatic work as she’s shown great strong work in the film Up In the Air a few years ago that she was amazing in. But she hasn’t done drama ever since that film and she’s really good in dramatic driven parts as she dose show it here for the first time in a while and I love it. She brings a dose of drama and a pinch of comedy to her performance that is the perfect mixture and works so well onscreen. She plays a mommy vlogger and at first glance is very peppy and happy and very innocent but as the film goes on she develops and changes and becomes darker and shifts her personality and makes an adjustment to her character by the end of the film which I loved. She’s able to play this innocent quietly girl but it’s so much more she’s so dimensional with her performance she shows great lengths of emotion we have seen her tap into before and some we haven’t seen her do onscreen before either. She’s able to walk this fine line of being totally sweet and then just crack and be very driven by anger and shattered by betrayal. She is so convincing as the character she plays she is the perfect fit for the role and I couldn’t see anyone else doing it as she brings such a special quality to the role. She gives such great emotional range and gives crackling delivery with her dialogue she is just so mesmerizing to watch onscreen and she where this character goes. She felt so real onscreen and Anna really gets in the skin of this character and makes you believe she’s this character by giving fantastic emotion and terrific delivery she’s able to make you laugh at her quirkiness and be terrified by her burst of anger and sad for her broken heart she’s amazing in this film and gives one of her strongest performances in years Anna is outstanding.

Blake Lively : Blake gives a solid Supporting turn in this stylish thriller! Blake hand tackled a drama since the Age Of Adeline. And she’s fantastic in dramas when she can sink her teeth into them and this film is one of them. She gives a marvellous performance that is so much fun to watch. Blake plays this rich and Honest person that makes for fantastic scenes between her and Anna in the film. She has a way of delivering dialogue as her character throughout the film and is able to speak some really dark lines in the film but she dose it in a way where she can say it and make it sound totally normal but to others it comes off as dark and her ability to deliver her lines in such a stylish, honest and believable way was fantastic she seemed so real and breathed such life In the character. She makes you feel so many things about her character she can be a totally mean person and so mean and then just break your heart by a look in her eye she’s amazing. She’s definitely not what she seems and has so much layers and a character arc she transitions through which I loved as then Blake was able to delve deep into this character and really give an emotional depth to her performance and showcase such different layers of emotion throughout the film. She’s not in it as much as I thought she would but when she is damn you are so captivated by her you want to see more because she dazzles in every moment of this film and grips you by her work in the film and gives one of her strongest performances I’ve ever seen her give.

Paul Feig : Paul gives his strongest directed film to date! Paul gives an amazing turn with his style on this film showcasing talent and ground that he hasn’t explored before and I love that. He’s more known for comedies and never has tackled anything outside of that genre so for him to do a murder mystery that was totally out of his comfort zone was different and it worked amazingly. He never let the style override the plot and made sure they were both equal and then got really well rounded performances from his cast. Paul shows amazing strength as he gives something new by injecting drama and mystery and toning down on the comedy. Their is comedy but here it’s very limited and when it is used is used in a way that’s effective and well timed I loved that. He just knocks it out of the park by giving something new and exploring new territory and he really shows amazing talent at the murder mystery genre and dose it justice. He gives a very entertaining film with fantastic style and story and keeping the audience engaged to the very end. Paul proves he can tackle new genres that he hasn’t done before and do it very well. Overall Paul gives his best directed film to date with his work on this film.
