Movie Review : Loving
Loving
This is a beautifully shot film with outstanding performances from the cast. This film is emotional well acted and a incredibly entertaining picture I highly recommend this film.
This film tells the true story of an interracial couple that get married but are looked down upon society because their an interracial couple they get a lawyer and bring it to the court. It shows how love overcomes any boundaries.
Rated PG - 13 : for thematic elements
Joel Edgerton : Joel delivers an Outstanding dramatic performance in this film. Joel has shown us he can flex his dramatic muscles in films like Black Mass and Warrior. He dose it once again with his fantastic work in this picture. Joel plays a husband who is so gentle he has no mean muscle in his body and the way Joel dose it onscreen is amazing. He speaks in such a soft voice and he uses his body Language to talk when he isn't using words which is brilliant. Their are parts in this film where Joel bears himself onscreen emotionally and just opens himself up and shows his true core feelings and it was tear jerking. I have seen Joel's work over the years and he can play dramatic work but I have never seen him cry onscreen and their is one particular scene in this film that he dose and it is so emotional you can see it in his eyes and the tone of voice. He was just one hundred percent their commuted to his performance being as real as he could onscreen and I love that. He is truly terrific in this film he really gets me to invested in his character he was so genuine onscreen their is no false note in his performance. Overall Joel delivers one of his finest performances of his career.
Ruth Negga : Ruth Is a powerhouse in this film. Ruth Negga that name I didn't know her as an actress before seeing this film. After seeing her in this I can't wait what she has in store for her next projects because she just blew me away with her fantastic emotional, dramatic performance in this film. Ruth plays Mildred and she is just a woman who loves her husband and gets hounded by the authority for being married to her husband because their a different race. The sheer heartbreak she expressed in the many scenes of this film was tremendous. Their were scenes where she's just sitting with her thoughts and no dialogue is needed just seeing the look on her face and the body language she is speaking volumes and it's powerful. As well when she spoke I didn't feel like it was read off a script I felt like she truly meant it that she was her character. Like when she's talking about the chances of getting their case to the Supreme Court Their was just this spark of hope in her voice that seemed so genuine and real. Her chemistry with Joel to was electric i really bought them as a couple onscreen that truly loved one another which made the connection between the characters seem more real. Overall Ruth's performance should not go unnoticed she's truly outstanding in this film.
Jeff Nichols : Jeff shows that he is a force to be reckoned with in cinema. Jeff has done such visionary work from Mud and Midnight Special and now this terrific film can be added to the list of great directed work he's done. He makes the film feel like a genuine period piece making the environment feel so immersive. As well got the right actors to fit these characters along with getting terrific performances from his cast. Jeff is a fantastic director he just knows how to engage the audience in the story's he tells onscreen which he dose again with this film. People should sit up and take notice of this director he is a modern day genius in the art of cinema that is establishing a name for himself he did a fantastic job with this film that great direction shouldn't go unnoticed. Once again great direction by Jeff Nichols.
The Lighting : the colours in this film were gorgeously constructed together to really get the picture to shine. They mixed the tones of yellow and gold together and the result is magnificent. Probably the best Lighting I've seen all year for a film it just fits the tone and feel of the frame. Along with making you engaged in the film by the way they make the scene pop out with its rich Lighting overall loved the tones used in this film.
The Cinematography : The camera angles used in the film was fantastic. They really captured the period the film was set in by not just great set design but also by the way they could capture it onscreen. The shots in the film is fantastic their are great cinematic shots that were so expressive and beautifully shot overall the camerawork in this film is spectacular.
The Score :The music in this film is well composed. The melody and use of instruments to create this score was fantastic. Not only is it a well constructed Score piece it also fits the feel and tone of the film incredibly well overall loved the Score in this film.
